Thorlabs' Optical Spectrum Analyzers (OSAs) perform highly accurate spectral measurements. Compatible with fiber-coupled and free-space light sources, these compact benchtop instruments suit a wide variety of applications, such as analyzing the spectrum of a telecom signal, resolving the Fabry-Perot modes of a gain chip, and identifying gas absorption lines. Many commonly available OSAs use grating-based monochromators, which have slow acquisition times due to the need to mechanically scan the grating and average out noise at each wavelength. Thorlabs' OSAs acquire the spectrum via a Fourier transform using a scanning Michelson interferometer in a push/pull configuration. This approach dramatically improves the acquisition time, enables a high-precision wavelength meter mode with 7 significant figures and ±1 part-per-million accuracy, and allows the included software to provide robust statistical analysis of the acquired spectra, as explained in the Design tab.

UV Cameras
Solar blind UV cameras are imaging devices optimized to detect ultraviolet light of wavelengths below about 280nm. Such cameras are insensitive against sunlight due to negligible sensitivity to visible and long wavelength UV light. Solar blind UV cameras are used in a series of applications like corona detection, fire detection, combustion analysis, plasma research, testing UV lamps, etc. However, highly sensitive corona detection is the main mass application and these devices are of crucial importance in electric power industry. These imaging devices enable easy detection of degraded insulators of high voltage transmission lines, distributions and substations. They can see the emission of UV light when discharges occur at defect insulators. From design point of view solar blind UV cameras are actually bispectral imaging systems built by combining true UV camera with typical visible camera. These bispectral imaging system generate output image as overlay of typical visible image with UV image of analyzed UV source.

Ellipsometry is a technique utilizing polarization state changes after light beam reacts with probing samples. A typical ellipsometer setup includes a light source, polarizing optics (like polarizer, analyzer, phase retarder or called as compensator), sample stage, detecting unit, incident angle change mechanism, computer and software for data acquisition and modeling. Not like reflectometer, ellipsometer parameters (Psi and Del) are always obtained at non normal incident angles. By varying incident angle. many more data sets can be obtained which will be helpful in refining model, reducing uncertainty and improving user's confidence on model's output. Therefore, variable angle ellipsometer is far more powerful than fixed angle ellipsometers. Furthermore, by utilizing broadband light source, spectroscopic data over a wavelength range with many wavelength points can be obtained and thus measurement precision and accuracy for optical properties can be greatly improved. The measurement speed for spectroscopic data has been overcome by implementing an advanced detector array so thousands of data can be acquired simultaneously. With such configuration and capable of collecting more data sets, the complicated layer stacks could be analyzed with powerful functions built within software.
