Our design heritage and past experience in this field cover the design, manufacture and AIT activities of many optics and sub-assemblies used in Telescope instrumentation, such as focal plane assemblies as well as the direct production of telescope mirrors themselves. Several major achievements of Thales ground-based Astronomy products were the Optical wide field corrector for the Dark Energy Survey (lien), the Reference Body for future Deformable Secondary Mirror of the VLT (lien) and different challenging spectrograph optics (Collimator and Cameras) for different Observatories (lien). One advantage Thales has with this activity is that most part of the manufacturing steps involved (i.e. opto-mechanical design, milling/grinding, lightening, polishing and coating) are directly under our control in our own facility. Our current capabilities for the production of optics for ground-based Astronomy are from a few centimeters size up to 2 meters. Thanks to the continuous efforts in R& D and investments into new production machines, Thales is now ready for future industrial challenges including the optical production of some key elements of the E-ELT, GMT and TMT programs.

The 9210 Series provided a 12kW power module operating at 40V, 120V, or 600V and which allowed paralleling with similar systems to increase the power, whereas the new 9300 system provides a 100kW power module with a software-selectable high voltage range (1200VDC / 167A) and high-current range (600VDC / 333A) allowing for efficient testing of single-voltage and double-voltage Electric vehicle (EV) batteries as well as high-voltage Energy Storage Systems (ESS) used in grid-tied applications. The 9300 further extends NHR’s family of high-power battery test and emulation capabilities which are ideal for analyzing a battery performance under xEV drive cycles and grid-storage profiles such as PJM and time-shifting profiles. Like the successful 9200 and 9210 systems, the 9300 modules are independent allowing for testing of multiple batteries, each with a different test plan, power levels and start/stop times. When higher power is needed, the 9300 modules may be paralleled providing 200kW, 300kW or up to 1.2MW capability. This modular power capability allows a system to be sized to the power levels needed today while ensuring expansion capability should additional power be needed in the future.

    The LS-11-F portable FM test transmitter is designed for checkout and troubleshooting of telemetry receiving systems operating with FM modulation. For applications with any of the ARTM modulations (Tier 0, Tier I, or Tier II), please refer to the LS-11-M Data Sheet. Complete ground stations including the antenna with LNA, RF down-converter, IF receiver, bit synchronizer, and PCM decommutator can be tested and bit error tests performed. The design allows secure links to be tested with an external encryptor. The Test Transmitter contains an internal PCM Data Simulator and Pseudorandom patterngenerator that operates in a BERT mode. The device provides simulated clock and data (without transmitter enabled) and accepts external data for modulating the internal transmitter. Complete setup can be achieved locally through the keypad and two-line LCD display or remotely through the USB Interface. Operational parameters include the PCM format parameter database information (frame sync patterns, wavewords, etc…), pre-modulation filter selection, transmitter carrier frequency, transmitter deviation, and output power level. Output power can be selected from approx. -60 to +5 dBm in 5 dB steps. The Test Transmitter contains a LiFePO4 Battery (Lithium Iron Phosphate), which provides higher energy density at ¼ the weight of legacy lead-acid batteries. The unit also provides an internal battery charger and will operate for up to twelve hours on battery power having received on a full charge.

It records force and absorbed energy data related to impacts, visualizes and helps analyze the results and calculates resilience. The operator is guided through parameters setup by means of tables describing strikers and specimens that are filtered according to the test type and international standard selected. In the case of instrumented tests, many possibilities for data analysis and visualization are made available. The results are shown through comprehensive and customizable graphs and can be filtered by break type (only specimens with a selected break type are shown). Working with groups of test, the software performs a statistical analysis, and the operator can pick and discard single test results. Different measurement units can be selected. It is possible to print reports and to export data totally or partially. Recent improvements include the possibility to set a number of user profiles, including graphic settings, default printing options, advanced parameters for data analysis and so on, switching quickly from one another when looking at results. The introduction of a new Data Acquisition System (CEAST DAS 64K) in the Impact product line has also triggered a number of new capabilities for the SW, which is now able to process a more comprehensive calibration file for instrumented tups and hammers and manage DAS configurations with a wider range of data acquisition channels.

    The Vibration Diagnostic System (VDS) is a vibration data management system designed specifically for the machinery Predictive Maintenance (PdM) community. It harnesses the graphic display capabilities of Crystal Instruments EDM Software for the work of machinery vibration analysts. It allows the user to quickly get to the data for a machine of interest and displays that data in the familiar Tri-axial or Single Axis view. Users can quickly compare other data from the same machine, quickly navigate back into the historical data of the machine, and quickly compare the data to that of other machines in the database. The software supports the construction of Average (a.k.a. baseline) data for a class of machines and allows easy comparison to that data as well. A full suite of cursors designed specifically for PdM analysis is provided for inuitive user interaction with the data.In addition to great graphics, an extensible machine modeling system was developed specifically for vibration analysis. VDS allows users to model machines based on the elements of the machine that can contribute to the vibration energy of the whole. Model bearings, rotors such as motor bars, couplings such as flexible and fluid couplings, account for slip in fluid couplings, model gears and pulley systems, and model turbines by accounting for each stage. The system is wide open, users can create new elements to use within a system.
