Chamber Controller Software
EDC (Embedded Device Control) is specifically designed software for Sentek chamber system controllers running Temperature and Humidity environmental tests. The EDC software features an intuitive interface, a powerful data review function and live data viewing. The combined EDM controller software provides one central location to set up parameters and a schedule between all three environments, with or without a connected controller. The powerful import and export features allow users to easily transfer test configurations between computers.

Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) Sine Test
EDM Modal Sine Testing includes a dedicated test setup and operation process flow using a single or multiple modal shakers outputting a sine wave to acquire FRF signals. The Source Output type is either Swept sine or Stepped sine. The sweep mode can be linear or logarithmic. The FRF signals of each measurement DOFs with respect to defined reference DOF will be constructed. The output drive level can be defined to run the test under no control strategy, or the response of a control channel can be specified to run the test in a closed loop.

Whole Body Vibration Analysis
Whole Body Vibration (WBV) testing is a type of vibration analysis geared towards estimating the effects on the operator. There are three categories of concern for the operator, health and comfort, perception, and motion sickness. The goal for any WBV test is to ensure that under normal operating conditions there is no significant or lasting effect of the vibration experienced by the operator.

Correlation Analysis
EDM Modal Correlation Analysis allows the user to correlate two modal models; EMA and/or FEA models. Comparing the experimental data with that acquired through finite element analysis helps in validating the test results. Users can import the geometry model and mode shape data from FEA or EMA software. A modal mapping procedure is executed to match the EMA and FEA models. After this matching procedure, the new mode shape information from FEA is interpolated and the FEA modal parameters are displayed alongside with EMA results. Finally, to observe the correlation between the results from the two methods, a Cross-MAC matrix is calculated and shown.

Frequency Response Function
FRF
FFT Spectral Analysis. Frequency Response Function (FRF) is a commonly used measurement type of the Dynamic Signal Analyzer. FRF is defined as the ratio of response i.e. acceleration, velocity, or displacement with respect to the excitation force which is the reference.

Multiple Shaker Control
EDM Multi-Shaker Control (MSC) is a software option included in the EDM testing package along with VCS. Multiple Shaker Control provides one centralized interface to interact with multiple controllers running separate tests at the same time. Multi-shaker controllers are not time synchronized unlike in MIMO VCS, in which all drives are time synchronized.

MIMO Vibration Control Overview
MIMO Testing has gained a huge momentum in the past decade with the development of multiple shaker table systems, the availability of Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) controllers, and the readiness of the standards (e.g., Mil STD 810G method 527 and IEST DTE 022 working group recommendation). The Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) Control System includes the following:

Automated Production Testing
Automated production testing is critical in today’s competitive manufacturing environment. Companies can no longer rely on variable costs, non-uniformity, and potential health hazards that come with a laborer-based manufacturing line. This is no less true for sound and vibration tests, ranging from in-process burn-in tests to product validation and verification tests. The measurement tools and intelligence behind present day manufacturing include data acquisition equipment as well as closed-loop control. And while these systems may not take part in the assembly of any goods, they are just as important to ensure quality control for both components coming into an assembly line and products going out.

Structural Testing Application Examples Using EDM Modal
Illustrated below are some customer applications in varying industries who are using the hardware and software by Crystal Instruments to analyze and understand the structural properties of their test specimen(s). Analyzing the modal characteristics namely natural frequencies, damping and mode shapes of the test unit further helps in improving the design to enhance the mechanical behavior of the test unit.

Shock Response Spectrum Analysis
A Shock Response Spectrum (SRS) is a graphical presentation of a transient acceleration pulse’s potential to damage a structure. It plots the peak acceleration responses of a bank of single degree-of-freedom (SDOF) spring, mass damper systems all experiencing the same base-excitation as if on a rigid massless base. Each SDOF system has a different natural frequency; they all have the same viscous damping factor. A spectrum results from plotting the peak accelerations (vertically) against the natural frequencies (horizontally).

Vibration Visualization
It is difficult to imagine the actual vibration level and distribution from the numerical display or signals, which are basically a mathematical representation of the vibration experienced by the structure under test. Animating the structure’s deformation provides users with a clearer representation of the intensity from vibration. A contour scale which graphically displays the magnitude of vibration on the structure using a color plot aids in visualizing the areas a test unit is the experiencing the maximum and minimum magnitude of the vibrations.
