The SpaceWire PCI Mk2 is a 3 SpaceWire port interface device, which can also act as a router, that succeeds the successful SpaceWire PCI-2 card. New features include the introduction of a packet generator in the hardware. This allows the card to generate SpaceWire packets at high speeds without using the host PC’s resources. Similarly, a new packet checker has also been added to the hardware design. The high performance driver boasts a full API which allows the user to control all functions of the card, supporting C and C++. Both the API and board design are common across several other STAR-Dundee devices. This makes it easy and quick to migrate user application software across different platforms. The AD8-1800 series has one or two 1800 MS/sec 8-bit ADCs, 8GB of on-board memory and the ability to transfer data directly into the host computer's memory at over 1 GB/sec. Streaming to the host computer can be performed simultaneously with acquisition to on-board memory, increasing the effective acquisition length by using the host computer's memory. Dual channel boards sample concurrently at twice the input clock frequency, and can also be software selected to run in single channel mode, providing twice the effective memory depth.

The devices are able to update up to 8-CH, 12-bit analog outputs simultaneously at sustaining 1 MS/s. The reference sources and the output polarities are programmable on per channel basis, combining with the multiplying DAC architecture, ADLINK DAQe-2500 series DAQ cards can generate complex modulated analog signals. The hardware-based arbitrary waveform generation frees the CPU intervention even when all analog outputs are updating at full speed, and the lengths of waveforms are only limited by the system memory.

The 7402e low profile PCI Express serial interface provides four serial ports, each individually field-configurable for RS-422 or RS-485 communications. The board uses a 16C954 UART with 128-byte Tx/Rx FIFOs that enables data rates to 921.6K bps for reliable high-speed communications in data intensive applications. This high-performance UART includes 9-bit framing support and is register compatible with legacy 16550 software applications. In addition, the board derives a 62.5 MHz clock from the PCI Express link. This ultra-high speed clock is divided by a flexible 8-bit clock prescalar with 1/8 steps to provide support for the widest range of standard and non-standard baud rates.
