Southern Photonics designed and manufactured all the test equipment currently being manufactured by Coherent Solutions, as well as equipment for non-telecoms applications. This includes FBG strain interrogators, optical pulse phase analysers, OSNR meters, optical power meters, optical spectrum analysers, optical gas sensors… you get the idea. All test equipment we build is robust and easy to use. The picture shows some of what we can do – anything from prototype benchtop test gear (as in the combination ASE source and laser combiner on top of the stack) to field test equipment (the portable fast OSA on the bottom).

Low Voltage Test & Measurement
Low voltage testing is able to catch errors such as shorts and opens by applying current to a wire and measuring the voltage. The wire will have a current affected by several factors including resistance and components. If the wire is connected correctly, the test will read low resistance. That means current is flowing through the wire as expected and reaching the required connections. If the tester reads high resistance it means something is impeding the current from reaching its destination. This could be caused by a number of causes.

Optical Test Instruments
OptiSpheric® & Spherometer
TRIOPTICS' OptiSpheric® and Spherometer are the classic optical test systems for spherical lenses that can be found in virtually any optical manufacturing process. While the Spherometer is used for the tactile determination of lens radii, OptiSpheric® systems provide contactless measurement of effective focal length, back focal length, flange focal length, MTF on axis and the radius of lenses. Specific upgrades allow determining centration errors and angles on plane surfaces. Systems for testing IOLs in compliance with EN/ISO 11979 form a class of their own. OptiSpheric® IOL R&D is preferably used for measuring single lenses while OptiSpheric® IOL PRO 2 is designed for the fully automated IOL measurement in serial production.

Terminal Mechanical Strength Test
The terminal strength test is used to performed to determine whether the design of electrical terminals and their method of attachment can withstand mechanical stresses to which they will be subjected during installation or disassembly in equipment. These stresses must be withstood by the component without sustaining damage which would affect either the integrity of the terminals or the operation of the component part itself. Procedures are established in this method for testing, for example wire-lead terminals, flexible-flat-strip or tab-lead terminals, and rigid-type terminals which are threaded or have other arrangements for attaching conductors. The forces applied during the test consist of direct axial, radial or tension pulls, twist, bending torsion, and the torque exerted by the application of nuts or screws on threaded terminals.
