EC-Series -
Global Energy Innovations, Inc.
The EC1000™ and EC2000™ are the only handheld, Multi-Frequency, ElectroChemical Battery Analyzers on the market using CELScan™ technology. This means they can report both the Electrical (Impedance & Voltage) and Chemical (Sulfation and Dryout) properties of lead acid batteries (VLA, VRLA, GEL). Other battery types (NiCd, NiMH, Lithium-Ion and others) may also be tested using the EC1000™ and EC2000™.

Testing for electrochemical migration (ECM) would occur in the case of a field failure return. Metal migration between isolated conductors on a completed printed circuit assembly may produce electrical shorts. Why does this growth occur and what do you need to look for? Basically, we need to know if our assemblies are “dirty.” By dirty, we mean littered with ions. Ions on printed circuit assembly surfaces can cause short circuits. In simple terms, shorts occur when the space between the conductors is bridged by dendrites formed by re-deposited metal ions. This metal migration is best described by IPC as a reverse plating of the conductors in the presence of ions, water and an electrical potential.

The VersaSTAT 3F applies an AC voltage to the sample emerged in electrolyte. This "global" voltage generates AC current to flow at the electrode / electrolyte interface. A dual-element probe is positioned in solution close to the surface of the sample. The electrometer measures a differential voltage measure between the two measurement elements as a measure of local voltage-drop in solution. This voltage-drop exists in solution because of current flow from local reactions at the sample, the resistance of the electrolyte and the spatial separation of the dual measurement elements.

BATT470m -
Newtons4th Ltd
The BATT470m electrochemical impedance analysis interface (EIS) provides an easy to use battery/cell impedance test platform for the electrochemical industry. Utilizing the highly accurate PSM3750 frequency response analyzer from N4L, the BATT470 provides impedance measurement of batteries/cells up to 100V DC. With a frequency range of 100mHz to 1MHz, the BATT470m covers a wide range of applications. Our software package - PSMComm2, featuring “EIS” mode, displays the in-phase and quadrature impedance of the cell in Nyquist form as well as overall impedance (Z), in bode form.

The quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) is a variant of acoustic wave microsensors that are capable of ultrasensitive mass measurements. Under favorable conditions, a typical QCM can measure a mass change of 0.1-1 ng/cm2. QCM oscillates in a mechanically resonant shear mode under the influence of a high frequency AC electric field which is applied across the thickness of the crystal. Figure 1b below shows an edge view of a QCM crystal undergoing oscillatory shear distortion. The central portions of the top and bottom of the crystal are coated with a typically disk-shaped thin metal film (e.g., gold).

The Molecular Electronic Transfer Technology
The basic design of the MET transducer, shown in Figure 1. The transducer is contained in a channel, 1, of a sensor filled with a specially prepared electrolytic solution. It consists of four fine platinum mesh electrodes, two anodes, 2, and two cathodes, 3, separated by thin, microporous ceramic or polymer spacers 4. Such an assembly is held together by a housing 5. To measure the motion of the fluid, it must be converted into an electrical signal. One way of achieving this is by using the convective diffusion of the ions in the electrolyte. At the heart of a MET device are inert electrodes at which a reversible redox reaction occurs, which does not involve either plating of a metal or evolution of a gas.

InstaTrace -
Teledyne Analytical Instruments
Teledyne's patent pending innovation called InstaTrace eliminates the greatest inconvenience associated with electrochemical oxygen sensors at the trace level -- the wait. When a typical electrochemical trace oxygen sensor is removed from its barrier bag for the purpose of replacing an expired sensor, it is exposed to ambient air (209,000 ppm O2).
