The EXC-9810/Ax is an Ethernet adapter supporting up to twenty ARINC-429 channels in any combination of transmit and/or receive. All of the channels feature error injection and detection.adapter. Its small size and ability to interface through Ethernet interfaces make it a complete solution for developing, testing and performing system simulation of the ARINC-429 bus, both in the lab and in the field.The receive channels allow for the storage of all selected labels with status and time tag information appended to each word, and also allow for filtering and multi-storage modes of data words. The transmit channels operate via a transmit ‘instruction stack’ which allows scheduling of data transmissions and reduces the need for host computer intervention. The EXC-9810 supports up to four independent 8000 family avionics communication modules, allowing multiple different protocols to be mixed and matched on a single card. Modules available include MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1760, MMSI, ARINC-429, ARINC-708, ARINC-717, Serial, Discrete and CAN bus. In addition, multiple units can operate on the same network, by programming each one with a unique IP address, and can be accessed from any computer on the network.The EXC-9810/Ax adapter is supplied with C drivers, including source code and may be used with Exalt, Excalibur’s Analysis and Laboratory Tools, a Windows monitoring application (only versions 8.1 or higher). Thorlabs' Fused Polarization Maintaining (PM) Wavelength Division Multiplexers (WDMs) combine two wavelengths of light in PM fiber while maintaining the polarization of the incident light. These WDMs are reversible; they can also be used to split two discrete wavelengths entering the common port into two separate output ports. They are not designed to split the output from a broadband source. PM WDMs are often used for pump / signal applications that incorporate erbium-doped or ytterbium-doped fiber amplifiers. Low-level multiplexed systems have a single programmable gain, wide-band amplifier following the input multiplexer. To accommodate low-level signal signals such as those from strain gauges or thermocouples and at the same time high level signals from other sources, the throughput rate must be limited to enable the high bandwidth amplifier to settle to the correct value after switching to a new channel. This results in a relatively low aggregate throughput rate when compared to an amplifier-per-channel system. A major benefit of a well designed low-level multiplexed system is the extremely high performance/cost relationship.

A new ultraviolet spectrophotometer system for optical metrology just arrived at NASA Goddard! The VUVAS-10X spectrophotometer works best in the 90 to 160 nanometer wavelength range, also known as deep or vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) region. It uses a windowless hydrogen plasma light source and differential pump section to reach many wavelengths beyond those of conventional deuterium lamps. The source also works with other gases, or gas mixtures, for atomic spectral line emission from about 30 nanometers (double ionized Helium gas) up to the Visible light range. The new spectrophotometer system, McPherson VUVAS-10X, uses a one-meter focal length high-resolution monochromator with the special light source, scintillated detector and Model 121 goniometric sample chamber. The system is ideal for optical transmission, absorbance and specular reflectance at incident angles up to 60 degrees. This McPherson spectrophotometer system will help develop, inspect and qualify optical materials and coatings used for very high altitude and extraterrestrial space flight missions.
