National RF’s Type NDB-2 and NDB-3 RF Milliwatt Meters are affordable pieces of test equipment for both the RF laboratory and the home experimenter. Both provide a digital reading of RF power in dB reference 1 milliwatt of power into a 50 ohm load (i.e. 0 dBm). The circuitry consists of a low noise logarithmic amplifier that drives a digital A/D converting meter circuit. The lowest power levels that can be read are about –73 dBm (approximately 40 microvolts or .00000003 milliwatts). The maximum power input should not exceed 10 milliwatts (+10 dBm or .010 watts) when inputed without attenuation. An internal attenuator is provided and described in the next section.

The CTA flexible current sensors are suited to permanent or semi permanent installation. The coil sensor is durable, lightweight, flexible and will easily clip-around a power cable. The 5A output from the CTA current sensor connects direct to installed metering, rotary metering or current transducers.

The 500 series dynamometer has a larger big brother – the MD-500-SE XL! The 500-SE is an excellent 2WD performance dynamometer and the XL model expands on these traits by adding in a much wider 98-inch outer track and a HUGE mechanical flywheel to increase the mechanical inertia of the dyno to about 2,000-lbs. This additional inertia helps reduce the duty cycle burden on the eddy current PAU and even allows for pulls to be done in a pinch in inertia-only mode. The XL handles vehicles like diesels and Ford Raptors where the 500 is a bit too narrow for these types of applications. The MD-500 XL’s multiple upgrade paths allows for an AWD upgrade in the future and enables it to accept a second eddy current PAU for increased loading capability. We’ve seen this dyno handle almost 2,000-hp to the wheels on power sweeps so don’t be fooled by the 1,500-hp peak measurement specification. If your tires will hook you can measure as much power as you are laying to the rollers. The large K250 eddy current PAU has plenty of torque for testing and tuning anything from your local diesel pickup crowd and local LS guys to classic carb stuff and front wheel drive cars. The 500-XL is great product at a great price with tons of range. Video Distribution Amplifiers (sometimes called a video splitter – not to be confused with a video split screen controller such as our PXD510E split screen controller) are typically used for connecting a camera or other video source to several monitors that do not have “looping” inputs. In this situation, each monitor has a permanent 75 ohm termination. With two non-looping monitors connected together, the line would be double loaded and result in a dim picture on each monitor. Using a Video Distribution Amplifier will solve this problem by driving each monitor individually at 100%.The second application is when the video signal is run over distances greater than 50 feet. The coaxial cable has a fair amount of signal loss over long distances. When multiple monitors are connected after long runs of coax, the degradation can be severe, especially when dealing with modern, high bandwidth signals that have 500+ lines of resolution.The VDA403 is a Video Distribution Amplifier designed for professional applications. Combining a calibrated half-wave dipole antenna and a highly accurate tuned voltmeter with a range of 140 dB, the FIM-71 is suitable for practically all types of RF emission measurements in the 45 MHz to 225 MHz spectrum.
