Pickering's PXI Fault Insertion / Signal Insertion Switch Modules feature a breakout arrangement that allows faults to be attached to the sensor lines, this includes the breaking of a connection or the adding of defect all of which can simulate connectivity problems in the system. Two switching topologies are available: *Single signal paths with series switches and switches to connect to one or more fault buses*Pairs of signals with series switches, shorting switches between the signal pairs and switches to connect either signal to an external fault input.

Switching System Test Tools
eBIRST
The eBIRST toolset consists of three different tools that support 200-pin LFH, 78-pin and 50-pin connectors and a set of adaptors that allow connection to other connector types. A supplied application program controls the eBIRST tools via a USB2 port that also provides the tool power and controls the switching system using a Test Definition File to define the test sequence. These tools work by measuring the path resistance at the switching system external connectors using four-wire measurements, quickly establishing whether the path is good, has increased resistance or has failed. Darlington Arrays
Darlington devices are high-voltage, high-current switch arrays containing multiple open-collector Darlington pairs or multiple Darlington transistors with common emitters, and integral suppression diodes for inductive loads. The nominal current rating of each output is 500 mA for the 7- and 8-output devices and up to 1.5 A for quad-output devices. The inputs are pinned opposite the outputs to simplify the application board layout. These devices interface standard logic families.

The DT3 module (the enhanced version) feature 4 independent, high current, isolated, programmable channels that can be used for input voltage measurements (±100 V), or as a bi-directional current switch (up to 3 A per channel). When programmed as a switch with the switch closed, both the current through the switch and the voltage across the switch can be monitored. These modules include diode clamping on each channel. Clamping is useful for inductive loads, such as relays and short circuit protection.
