In the calibration of slant bed lathes, for example, the beam steering mirror deflects the beam from the laser head upward, through the interferometer, along the lathe's cross slide. One or more mirrors can also create a path from a laser head to an interferometer located in an otherwise inaccessible position, as in the case of a milling machine with a table that moves in only one axis.

Analog Devices current mirrors are precision, high dynamic range, wide variable supply parts used for optical power monitoring, voltage biasing with current monitoring, and voltage-to-current conversion. Our current mirrors can monitor current down to as little as 3 nA and as much as 3 mA, with a linearity of 1% or better. The current dynamic range is 120 dB or 6 decades of current range, while the overcurrent protection feature in our devices forces the input pin to ground to avoid part damage. Over temperature (–40°C to +85°C) and process, the dynamic range only suffers 10 dB at the lower end of the range.
