  • Viscometers

    PCE Instruments

A viscometer, viscosity meter or rheometer is a measuring instrument used to determine a fluid's internal flow resistance or viscosity. The term viscosity typically refers to shear viscosity, i.e., how a material reacts to being sheared. Rotational viscometers with rotating spindles or rotors, also known as "cup and bob" or Searle viscometers, are the most common tools used to measure the shear viscosity of fluids. However, a fluid's viscosity also may be measured on the basis of stretching. The technical term to refer to this is extensional viscosity.A viscometer is frequently used in laboratories, but it also has practical applications in factories and other industrial environments. A viscometer can be an important component in process and quality control. Companies can save money by placing a viscometer in a production line and making fluid viscosity measurements in real time.PCE Instruments offers a variety of handheld, portable, benchtop and in-process, real-time viscometer products that measure the absolute / dynamic (shear) and kinematic viscosity of fluids. Handheld or portable viscosity meter devices allow users to take simple, single-point measurements in the field and in the lab. Benchtop or stationary viscometer devices are complex rheological measuring systems that allow for a more detailed examination of liquid samples.

  • Surface Quality Monitors

    Photo Emission Tech., Inc.

PET manufactures and markets non-destructive, non-contact surface contamination and thin film detection models and automated systems (surface quality monitoring system) capable of detecting thin layer contamination, thin films and coating down to the Angstrom level. These systems represent a major breakthrough by providing, for the first time, a quantitative measure of surface cleanliness. As surface cleanliness verification instruments, in a part cleaning environment, these products are capable of validating the cleaning quality of all the part cleaning equipment available in the market. Any of SQM model series is capable of verifying metal contamination; monitoring absence/presence of organic and/or inorganic on virtually on surfaces of all metals. They are, price/performance, the most sufficient product available for testing surface of metals for surface cleanliness. These systems operate in an ambient environment, require no sample preparation or deposit of any agents on the surface. In any parts cleaning environment where the quality and efficiency of part cleaning equipment for removal of surface contamination is highly desired, these systems provide a scientific solution by quantitatively measuring the surface cleanliness. The SQM series has the sensitivity and operational simplicity required to provide fast and cost effective surface evaluation for all metals.

  • Air Flow Meters

    PCE Instruments

An Air Flow Meter measures air velocity as well as air pressure. Depending on the type of application, the Air Flow Meter is made as a hot-wire Air Flow Meter, a vane Air Flow Meter, a cup anemometer, a Pitot tube air flow meter or a pocket weather flow meter, all of which can measure air velocity as well as air pressure. Some can even detect the wind direction. The most common unit of measurement for air flow is m/s.Air Flow Meters are basically mass flow meters, as they determine the air velocity and air pressure by measuring the mass flow of a medium, which is air in this case. The results of measuring the air velocity can be stored in the Air Flow Meter's memory, depending on the model. There are a lot of Air Flow Meters available. The air flow meter is ideal for taking quick or constant measurements including monitoring of ventilation installations, process checking, industrial applications, use in private workshops or by nautical enthusiasts or for other hobbies, etc.At PCE, you can find the right air flow meter to use indoors and outdoors. • Heavy Duty Dynamometers

    MD-7500-HD - Mustang Dynamometer

Today’s Fleet Managers are faced with many challenges – most important of which is maintaining a healthy bottom line. With fuel costs at an all-time high, these challenges have become increasing difficult. Fleets being transitioned from fossil fuels to electric propulsion also face challenges with durability and range to make sure routes can be completed on time each and every day. To help combat these problems and others facing fleet managers today, Mustang Dynamometer offers the MD-7500-HD Series Chassis Dynamometer – which features the most advanced diagnostic capabilities in the industry. The MD-7500-HD is designed to simulate the driving conditions that fleet vehicles encounter on the road every day in a safe and controlled shop floor environment so that critical engine and drivetrain systems can be evaluated to insure vehicles are performing properly and at maximum efficiency. What’s more, the MD-7500-HD offers several levels of testing capabilities in a modular, compact package and with capabilities that can be upgraded in the future as your needs change. Every vehicle in your fleet can now be tested and validated before and after a repair to ensure proper diagnosis and repairs have been performed. In addition to testing repaired vehicles, the MD-7500-HD can be used to test vehicles on a regular basis as a preventative maintenance measure which decreases unexpected breakdowns and allows fleet management to control fuel costs while reducing repair costs. Periodic testing keeps fuel consumption to a minimum and helps technicians identify suspect components before they fail. A proactive approach to Fleet Service can prevent unexpected engine and or drive-train failure which saves organizations thousands of dollars in lost fair revenues. At the heart of the MD-7500-HD is a set of three air-cooled eddy current power absorbers. Each absorber, or brake, can hold up to 600-hp (total power of 1,800-hp) – more than enough to simulate a fully loaded transit bus. As the systems PAU’s (brakes) are air-cooled, no water is required to or from the device – eliminating the high cost of water consumption and/or the cost of an expensive water recovery system – which can sometimes exceed the cost of the dynamometer system itself. Mustang is the only company that offers a Universal Fleet Test Bed without water supply requirements. AC Motors can be added to simulate regeneration and validate range for organizations that have transitioned to carbon free electric propulsion. The 7500 is the best solution for fleet managers looking to improve their bottom line and offer disruption-free public transportation.

  • Hydraulics Testing

    National Technical Systems

Fluid power systems play a critical role in many industries, and are one of the three major forms of power transmission along with electrical and mechanical power systems. In many cases, however, mechanical and electrical methods cannot provide a practical power transmission solution. In these cases, fluid power (whether hydraulic or pneumatic) is often used because it can deliver linear and rotary motion with high force and torque within a smaller, lighter package than is possible with other forms of power transmission. Some of the most common applications of hydraulic systems are in heavy construction and off-highway equipment. Other applications can be seen in aircraft, mass transportation systems (such as trains), construction, mining, agriculture, waste reduction, and utility equipment. The various components (such as valves, actuators, cylinders, accumulators, etc.) that make up these systems must perform reliably and have a reasonable life span. Only a thorough test program carried out under simulated field use conditions can insure that any component part or assembly will meet its original design goals for performance, reliability and longevity. Many internationally recognized organizations have published test standards that apply to hydraulic/pneumatic and fluid power systems and components. Some of these organizations are:
