  • Electrostatic Discharge Testing / ESD Testing

    Keystone Compliance

Electrostatic discharge testing, also known as ESD testing is an essential test for many product. Electrostatic discharge can cause a number of problems including but not limited to mechanical failures, coal dust explosions, fuel vapor explosions and bodily injury. ESD is the sudden transfer of electricity between to electrically charged objects. This electrostatic transfer can be caused by contact, dielectric breakdown or an electrical short. ESD testing simulates various electrostatic impacts that equipment might experience either during transit or operation. The impact of electrostatic discharge can be significant whether the ESD even is so slight that is undetectable by hearing or sight or as spectacular as electrical sparks or lightning. An electrostatic discharge test determines whether a product is in compliance with its ESD protective area and procedures. Electronics manufacturers must identify ESD-reducing measures when their products are either susceptible to ESD or likely to create ESD. These measures can include establishing electrostatic protective areas that are free of static, controlling humidity, using measures to eliminate charging such as avoiding highly charging materials and taking steps to remove static such as grounding human workers or requiring antistatic devices. An ESD test confirms that the equipment correctly operates per the test requirement and the manufacturer’s operating procedures.

  • Geiger Counters

    PCE Instruments

A geiger counter detects nuclear radiation by measuring the emission of ionizing radiation of alpha particles, beta particles and gamma rays. Also referred to as a radiation detector, a geiger counter consists of two main elements: the processing electronics and the geiger tube. The geiger tube is filled with low-pressure inert gas like helium, argon or neon. If radioactive radiation occurs, the inert gas is ionized. An anode within the geiger tube registers the quantity of ionized particles numerically correlating with the strength of the radioactive radiation. The radioactivity measurement is then displayed on the LCD screen of the geiger counter or radiation detector. It is very important to measure radioactivity as well as to classify radioactivity values. For example, terrestrial gamma radiation is measured according to general values from 0.03 - 0.3 µSv/h (microsievert / hour). This "normal" oscillation range is conditioned by natural radioactive elements in the ground such as uranium and potassium. To calculate this factor, one must take into consideration cosmic radiation. For example, when considering cosmic radiation, the maximum radioactivity content at Schneefernerhaus, the highest-located German environmental research station, is approximately equal to 110 µSv/h.At PCE Instruments, you will find three types of geiger counter or raditation detection devices to help you measure radioactivity: 1) alpha radioactivity meters, 2) meters for detecting alpha, beta and gamma radioactivity and 3) radioactivity meters for human beings.

  • Three-Phase Transformer Winding Resistance Meters

TWA Advanced Series - IBEKO Power AB

TWA Advanced series is the latest DV Power solution for three-phase transformer winding resistance measurement and tap changer analysis. They are capable of testing six transformer windings with a single cable connection, as well as three-phase automatic transformer demagnetization. It has the option of the automated test mode, where the instrument operates the tap changer without operator input (minimizing the risk of human error) and records winding resistance results based on pre-selected stabilization criteria. The unique DVtest method of tap changer analysis enables checking the moving contacts of on-load tap changers during the transition, measuring the transition time, detecting open circuits, and many other types of faults. It is performed with 0.1 ms sampling rate, together with the measurement of tap changer motor current which detects motor and mechanical issues. A special proprietary algorithm is used for testing tap changers connected through a built-in series (booster) transformer. The DVtest can be performed either on one phase or simultaneously on three phases. It can also be performed together with the winding resistance test in all tap positions.A unique advantage of TWA Advanced instruments is the capability of simultaneously testing the winding resistance of all three phases of a three-phase transformer connected in a YN configuration. This can significantly speed up the testing– for example, it enables the operator to perform 33 measurements instead of 99 on a tap changer with 33 tap positions.TWA500 is equipped with a large 10.1” graphical touch-screen display, while TWA400 has a 7” graphical touch-screen display. Besides making the interface much more user-friendly compared to older winding ohmmeters, it also enables certain test options that were previously available only with DV-Win software. The most important among them are DVtest, tap changer motor current measurement, “Heat Run” test, test templates, and automatic test mode.

  • Turns Ratio Testers

TRT Advanced Series - IBEKO Power AB

TRT Advanced series is the newest DV Power solution for transformer turns ratio measurement. Besides its main application, each turns ratio tester from this series also measures transformer excitation current and phase shift. Furthermore, all models perform automatic vector group detection and magnetic balance on three-phase transformers and three-phase autotransformers. They have a built-in true three-phase power source. For that reason, they can test transformers with special configurations, such as phase-shifting, rectifier, arc-furnace, traction transformers, etc.The instruments can output test voltages from 1 V AC to 500 V AC, depending on the model. With the highest test voltage 500 V AC, TRT500 provides the most accurate turns ratio testing of power transformers used in power generation and transmission. The output test voltage of TRT500 can be boosted to 5 kV AC using the external CVT20 extension transformer. This application is specially designed for testing turns ratio of capacitive voltage transformers. The other three models, TRT400, TRT250, and TRT100 can output up to 400 V, 250 V, and 170 V respectively. The low test voltage of 1 V AC enables turns ratio verification of current transformers.TRT500 is equipped with a large 10.1” graphical touch screen display. Other models, (TRT400, TRT250, TRT100) have 7” graphical touch screen display. Besides making the interface much more user-friendly compared to older turns ratio testers, it also brings certain options that were previously available only with DV-Win software. The most important are test templates and automatic test mode. Users can simply create test templates, store them in the instrument’s memory, and load when in the field with just a few clicks. This turns ratio test set, as well as all other DV Power turns ratio testers, has a built-in tap changer control unit. It enables remote control of an on-load tap changer (OLTC) directly from the instrument. In order to make the most out of this feature, the instrument can be programmed to do everything automatically – running turns ratio tests, changing OLTC tap positions, and saving results. This option, especially in combination with test templates, significantly facilitates and shortens the turns ratio testing time. Automatic test mode minimizes human errors, which makes the measurement more reliable.
