L Series

The L Series is the most versatile instrument that Bowman offers. It combines all of the features of the P Series with a larger sample chamber and greater X-Y stage travel. For samples larger than ~12 inches (300 mm) in any direction, the L Series is a must-have. The large sample stage and travel allows for both large parts, or large sample fixtures holding multiple parts, to be measured. The chamber is fully enclosed and boasts a capacity to hold samples up to 22″ (550mm) x 24″ (600mm) x 13″ (330mm) (LxWxH). The X-Y stage travel distance is 10″x10″ (254mm x 254mm). The standard configuration includes a 4-position multiple collimator assembly, and a variable focus camera allowing for measurement in recessed areas. As with other models, the collimator sizes and focal distances are customizable for different customer applications. The programmable X-Y stage is included, but can be removed to allow for the maximum sample height capacity (10″ (254mm) z-height with stage, 13″ (300mm) without). The solid-state PIN detector is included along with our long-life micro-focus x-ray tube. The high performance SDD detector is an optional upgrade.

Advanced thermal design of the effusion oven allows long-lifetime operation at minimal heating power, with no water cooling. An integrated low-outgassing hot window is provided for coupling of on-axis Zeeman cooling light. Ion and getter pumps integrated into the chamber manage outgassing from the oven at temperatures up to 520 °C. The instruments at MEE are capable of variable-pressure, or low vacuum, SEM (VPSEM), as well as traditional high-vacuum conditions for sample observation. VPSEM is a specialized method using a variable-pressure sample chamber that allows direct evaluation of samples that are not readily examined with a traditional high-vacuum SEM. Nonconductive or vacuum sensitive samples that would typically require additional sample preparation can be directly analyzed in VPSEM without the need for additional sample preparation, such as carbon or metallic conductive coatings. This reduces both sample preparation time and distractions in microanalysis. Our laboratory also has a field emission SEM (FESEM) for critical high-magnification work and low-voltage (LVSEM) applications. The Model T360M CO2 analyzer measures Carbon Dioxide by comparing infrared energy absorbed by a sample to that absorbed by a reference gas according to the Beer-Lambert law. Using a Gas Filter Correlation Wheel, a high-energy IR light source is alternately passed through a CO2 filled chamber and a chamber with no CO2 present. The light path then travels through the sample cell, which has a folded path of 1.28 meters.The energy loss through the sample cell is compared with the reference signal provided by the filter wheel to produce a signal proportional to concentration, with little effect from interfering gases within the sample. This design produces excellent zero and span stability and high signal to noise ratio, allowing excellent performance over a wide concentration range, making this instrument an ideal choice for CO2 reporting requirements associated with dilution CEMS.
