The Sercos Monitor is a powerful diagnosis tool for Sercos III networks which is available for free download from the Sercos website. It allows a comprehensive and detailed analysis of data traffic in Sercos III networks. The Sercos Monitor supports the Windows XP and Windows 7 operating systems. The tool, which is based on the WinPcap interface, allows a retrospective evaluation of network records saved in pcap format, as well as real-time analysis of network traffic. The user-friendly interface and overview functions which are characteristic of Sercos III networks, such as topology, communication phases and service channel transfers, allow the analysis process to be started quickly and in a targeted manner. Experienced users also have comprehensive protocol and analysis functions available to them. Various views and filters allow an evaluation of Sercos III real-time telegrams and other Ethernet telegrams which is tailored to meet the user's requirements. If required, the functionality of the Sercos Monitor can also be expanded with user-specific plug-ins.

The test system cluster architecture is based on dual CPU or 4-CPU PCs acting as cluster nodes. The nodes communicate and synchronise over a high-speed network (Myrinet or InfiniBand). A modification of the Linux operating system allows to run the test execution and evaluation algorithms in hard real-time on reserved CPUs, where scheduling is non-preemptive and controlled by the test system itself. The interrupts caused by interfaces to the system under test may be relayed to CPUs designated explicitly for their handling. This approach offers the opportunity to utilise high-performance standard hardware and the services provided by the widely accepted Linux operating system in combination with all mechanisms required for hard real-time computing. The cluster architecture presents an opportunity to distribute interfaces with high data throughput on different nodes, so that PCI bus overload can be avoided. In addition, the CPU load can be balanced by allocating test data generators, environment simulations and checkers for the behaviour of the system under test ("test oracles") on dedicated CPUs.

The bench tests units of 12V and 24V; diagnoses the latest alternators and voltage regulators, which are controlled by car ECU; has ports to connect alternators of different brands and manufacturers: COM (LIN, BSS), P-D, DFM, D+, RLO, C, SIG. Diagnostics is carried out through load simulation of car consumers, change of rotation speed, sending of control signals (external control alternators), tracking of electrical characteristic. Testing results are transmitted to LCD display real-time. Testing modes are switched with membrane keyboard on the control panel of the test bench.
