You can customize these devices with the LabVIEW FPGA Module to develop applications requiring precise timing and control such as hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing, custom protocol communication, sensor simulation, and high-speed control. The PXI‑7842 features a dedicated A/D converter (ADC) per channel for independent timing and triggering. This design offers specialized functionality such as multirate sampling and individual channel triggering, which are outside the capabilities of typical data acquisition hardware.

If a computer or application fault occurs, the PXI‑6509 can use digital I/O watchdogs to switch to a configurable safe output state to ensure detection and safe recovery from fault conditions. Programmable input filters eliminate glitches/spikes and provide debouncing for digital switches/relays through a software-selectable digital filter.

The large onboard memory can be segmented to record different waveform sequences. While the M4i.77xx cards have been designed using the latest technology they are still software compatible with the drivers from earlier Spectrum digital acquisition cards. Therefore existing customers can use the same software they developed for a 10 year old 60 MS/s digital input card also for an M4i.77xx series 720 MS/s logic analyzer.
