All channels provide for voltage division ahead of transient suppression before going into the S&H ICs. Channels that are sampled and held use a common sample and hold pulse that samples while high and holds while low. Jumpers on each S&H chip allow buffering of analog signals where sample and holds are not required. An advantage to the buffers is that it provides a high input impedance for high impedance voltage dividers.

The AD14-400 series has two 20-400 MS/sec 14-bit ADCs, 8GB of on-board memory and the ability to transfer data directly into the host computer's memory at up to 3.2GB/sec (400MS/s * 2 bits per sample * 2 channels). Streaming to the host computer can be performed simultaneously with acquisition to on-board memory, increasing the effective acquisition length by using the host computer's memory. Dual channel boards sample concurrently at the input clock frequency, and can also be software selected to run in single channel mode, providing twice the effective memory depth.

A choice of 21 PC board traces with different lengths can be inserted into the signal path. The trace lengths range from 0.8 inch (20.3 mm) to 22.3 inch (566.4 mm). By cascading the traces within one board or with another board, a wide range of channels can be emulated with very fine resolution of insertion loss steps. The SAMPULSE20x2 is a demonstration board for the Furaxa SiGe3 30GHz sampler/pulser IC. The SIGe3 IC is a dual channel sampler pulser chip, and the SAMPULSE20x2 demonstration board contains two 2.4mm combined TDR input/output connectors, one to each sampler/pulser channel in the IC. The SiGe3 IC's two sampler outputs are then sent to to two SMA jacks, the first outputting the sample taken on the rising edge of the sampler clock, and the second containing the sample taken on the falling edge of the sampler clock. The sampler clock input, which must be a square wave, may be set to any frequency from 5MHz to 1GHz, causing the board take two pairs of samples (one on each clock edge) at rates from 5 million to 1 billion per second. A pulser clock input, which may be set to any frequency from 5MHz to 2GHz, and MUST be a square wave (preferably differential) with rise time under 100pS, causes the board to produce concurrent pulses on both of the SiGe3's I/O pins, which produce near-concurrent pulses at the two 2.4mm sampler/pulser TDR input/output connectors.
