EMI is emitted radiation and its effects – a phenomenon. EMC is a device’s ability to limit the levels of unintentionally emitted EMI (that can harm other devices) and also a device’s ability to operate normally when subjected to EMI. Therefore, EMC testing seeks to ensure that a product possesses the characteristic of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC): the ability to limit creation of EMI (Electromagnetic interference) and the ability to operate properly when subjected to EMI. Stated differently, EMC testing measures the level of EMI control found in a device, and therefore helps to ensure that unwanted effects are prevented.

The UCR411A receiver provides professional performance and a versatile feature set in a compact design for field and location production. All settings are made from the front panel with a powerful LCD interface, making the unit ideal for use on sound carts, in portable bags, and in rack-mount multi-couplers. To alleviate interference problems in an increasingly congested RF spectrum, an RF spectrum analyzer is built into the receiver. The receiver tunes across its 25.6 MHz tuning range and records RF activity with markers on the LCD screen. Finding clear operating frequencies is a quick, simple process. The UCR411A is compatible with all 400 Series Lectrosonics wireless transmitters (and some other transmitter types) and can be powered with internal 9V batteries or external DC.

Near-Field Probes 100 kHz up to 50 MHz

The LF1 near-field probe set consists of 4 shielded near-field probes used during the development process for emission measurement of longwave, medium wave, and shortwave frequencies on electronic devices. The probe heads of the LF1 set are designed for incremental detection of sources of electromagnetic interference on assemblies. First, the electromagnetic interference of the assembly is detected by the LF-R 400 probe from up to 10 cm. Then probes with higher resolution like the LF-B 3, LF-U 5 and LF-U 2.5 are used to more precisely detect any source of interference. The probe heads are designed for taking measurements at single pins and larger components. Near-field probes are small and handy. They have a current attenuating sheath and, therefore, are electrically shielded. They can be connected to a spectrum analyzer or an oscilloscope with a 50 Ω input. The H-field probes do not have an internal terminating resistance of 50 Ω.

Using IR absorption with a Gas Filter Correlation Wheel, the T300U is designed to allow ultra-sensitive CO measurements while still meeting the requirements for use as a US EPA compliance analyzer.The optical bench is enclosed in a temperature controlled oven, dramatically decreasing instrument noise and drift. The objective and field mirrors in the sample cell are gold plated to maximize signal to noise performance, while a temperature-controlled Nafion dryer on the inlet minimizes water interference caused by ambient humidity changes. Periodically, the T300U seamlessly corrects its baseline by routing the sample through a heated catalytic CO scrubber. There is no requirement for a reference gas during operation.
