Gloss & Reflectance
Visual appearance can determine a person’s perception of a product. Colour and Gloss are two key parameters that are used to define a product’s overall quality. Perception is subjective, but Elcometer’s range of gloss meters, DOI meters and colour assessment equipment can quantify appearance measurement. The ability of a surface to reflect light without scattering is known as gloss. Using a gloss meter, gloss is measured by directing a constant intensity light beam at a fixed angle to the test surface and then by monitoring the amount of reflected light at the same angle. Different surfaces require different reflective angles.

Cassegrain Antennas
In telecommunications and radar, a Cassegrain antenna is a parabolic antenna in which the feed antenna is mounted at or behind the surface of the concave main parabolic reflector dish and is aimed at a smaller convex secondary reflector suspended in front of the primary reflector. The beam of radio waves from the feed illuminates the secondary reflector, which reflects it back to the main reflector dish, which reflects it forward again to form the desired beam. Broadband Detectors
These waveguide bandwidth detectors use silicon beam lead diodes on a planar stripline circuit to obtain an extremely rugged and compact device. Most millimeter wave broadband detectors have very poor VSWR due to the difficulty in obtaining a good wideband impedance match to the diode. To overcome this problem, these detectors utilize two diodes and an internal matched termination and 3 dB hybrid as shown below. This circuit allows a VSWR of 2.0 or better over a full waveguide bandwidth for most of these detectors. Detectors for waveguides WR-8 and smaller use a single zero bias GaAs diode. The high sensitivity zero bias GaAs diodes can also be special ordered for use at lower frequencies when highest sensitivity is required.

The AWMF-0129 is an active array for 5G wireless applications developed using planar antenna technology resulting in a very low profile, lightweight unit. The surface mount assembled antenna board is based on Anokiwave’s AWMF-0108 Silicon Quad Core IC and demonstrates the performance achievable using low power silicon integration and efficient antenna layout and design. Using the AWMF-0108, the antenna provides +50dBmi output power while consuming just 12W DC power in the RF circuits and has achieved Gb/s data rates in OTA trials. The Lange Coupler is a four-port interdigitated structure originally developed by Dr. Julius Lange in 1969. They are a common RF/microwave circuit. The coupling is derived from closely spaced transmission lines, such as microstrip lines.
