A gauss meter displays electromagnetic wave measurements in Gauss (G), milliGauss (mG), milliTesla (mT) or microTesla (µT) units. A gauss meter can detect either static (DC) permanent (rare-earth) magnetic or dynamic (AC) electromagnetic fields (EMFs), or both. Thus, it is important to review the specifications of a gauss meter prior to purchase to ensure suitability for the intended application.Neodymium (NdFeB) permanent magnets are among the world's strongest and most widely used magnets. When testing magnets made of neodymium or other rare-earth elements, a gaussmeter or magnetometer capable of measuring DC magnetic fields is required. However, most electromagnetic fields encountered are generated by AC currents. Examples include electrical power lines, transformers and wiring for overhead lighting, solar panels and other electrical devices and equipment. Electromagnetic fields from electrical installations are believed to cause feelings of nervousness, anxiety and paranoia in EMF-sensitive human beings.Most gaussmeters offered by PCE Instruments can be calibrated and certified according to DIN ISO 9000 standards for an additional fee. The Model FIM-71 is a portable, laboratory quality Field Strength Meter designed for rigorous field applications. Combining a calibrated half-wave dipole antenna and a highly accurate tuned voltmeter with a range of 140 dB, the FIM-71 is suitable for practically all types of RF emission measurements in the 45 MHz to 225 MHz spectrum. The operator can switch select wide or narrow bandwidth, peak or average value of TV or pulse modulated signals, AM or FM demodulation, and a meter dynamic range of either 20 dB or 60 dB. A dc analog output voltage, proportional to the meter indication, is provided for driving a chart recorder. A leveled output from the calibrating oscillator is available for measuring cable insertion loss, filter response, amplifier gain, and other signal ratio measurements. The 4-1/2 inch, taut band, mirrored scale meter is calibrated in volts and dB for precise measurements in field or laboratory environments.

Handheld Turns Ratio & Winding Resistance Tester

Handheld TWR-H device is DV Power single-phase instrument designed for measuring transformer winding resistance and turns ratio.The instrument has two output DC sources for measuring transformer winding resistance. The first DC source can output up to 2 A DC and is used for injecting current to the transformer’s high voltage winding. The second DC source can output up to 10 A DC and is used for testing the transformer’s low voltage winding. This is especially useful when measuring winding resistance of distribution transformers. These transformers have large turns ratio and therefore a big difference between resistances of high voltage and low voltage windings. Upon the winding resistance test, it is also possible to demagnetize the transformer core. The demagnetization process is completely automatic and safe.Together with the turns ratio, the instrument also measures excitation current and phase shift. This enables detecting transformer core or winding turns failures which cannot be spotted by measuring turns ratio only. The instrument can output test voltage up to 40 V AC for this test, but it can also output a very low test voltage of 1 V AC which is necessary for turns ratio verification of the majority of current transformers.TWR-H is powered by an internal Li-Ion battery. Up to 100 tests can be performed with a fully charged battery.
