It can generate arbitrary waveforms point by point with a maximum 2.5 GSa/s sample rate and vector signals with a maximum of 500 MSa/s. It also has the ability to generate a variety of signals such as continuous wave, Pulse, Noise, PRBS patterns, and a 16-bit digital bus. It supports the generation of complex signals such as modulation, sweeping, bursting, and dual-channel copying/coupling/tracking and superposition. The outputs are user selectable for differential or single-ended connections and support a maximum output range of ± 24 V. The instrument can ensure a large amplitude under high-frequency which eliminates an external power amplifier in some applications and addresses a wider range of requirements.

The instrument is fully enclosed in a robust all steel enclosure mounted on castors and fitted with carrying handles. The control panel forms the top of the case, it is finished in high gloss light blue stoving with cutter engraved labelling, and is protected by a detachable lid. The EHT outlet is of a recessed type designed to prevent accidental contact with high voltages. Surge repetition is electronically controlled from 0 to 10 seconds, a single surge or a train of pulses can be selected by a panel mounted switch. Automatic discharge of the instrument is achieved by a gravity operated switch which is released on switching 'OFF' the instrument or on disconnecting the supply.

The PXI Carrier Module for SwitchBlock can hold up to six Matrix Modules for SwitchBlock while occupying four PXI slots. By connecting multiple SwitchBlock relay cards through the carrier's integrated analog bus, you can easily create large matrices with more than 2,000 crosspoints in four PXI slots and more than 8,000 crosspoints in a single PXI chassis. Each Matrix Module for SwitchBlock comes in an A-type version, which serves as the first matrix building block and offers row and column access through the front connector, and a B-type version, which serves as an expansion module and only provides column access through the front connector. Typically, SwitchBlock systems contain one A-type module and numerous B-type modules.
