Full time AWD vehicles are designed to provide maximum performance regardless of road conditions. In cases where traction is less than ideal, a vehicle may be designed to improve stability and traction at the expense of power. This means adding torque to a spinning wheel or retarding of timing. In order to properly test an AWD vehicle for peak performance, an AWD chassis dynamometer must be able to simulate ideal road-load conditions to the vehicle. This approach allows the vehicle to be evaluated under "optimum" operational conditions; whereby torque is distributed to the vehicle's tires in the same manner that would normally occur when a vehicle has equal traction at all four drive wheels, and is therefore operating at peak efficiency.

The low profile design and relatively small footprint of the MD-150 makes it ideal for these situations. Mustang has integrated a lift jack like you would see on a standard pallet jack into the frame of the MD-150 and equipped the opposite side of the dyno with retractable heavy-duty casters to make moving the dyno around the shop easy for a single person. Simply roll the dyno into place, plug it in and attach the ramps and you are ready to perform performance tuning and diagnostics testing in minutes.

MD-ASM-150-AWD (4×4) - Mustang Dynamometer

The MD-ASM-150-AWD (4×4) tests both axles of the test vehicle under the same imposed load; while at the same time providing for front-to-rear axle speed synchronization. Front-to-back roller speed synchronization protects AWD center diﬀerentials, provides for a means to safely test 2WD vehicles with traction control, and allows for testing to be performed under real-world load conditions. The MD-ASM-150-AWD (4×4) accommodates wheelbases from 86 to 128 inches (218 – 325 cm) without moving parts.

MD-250-M - Mustang Dynamometer

Mustang has developed a low-cost, simple to use, easy-to-install heavy duty chassis dynamometer that can be used to simulate real-world driving conditions in a safe, controlled environment and can also be used for “static” diesel smog testing for regulatory purposes. This model is used in Diesel Smog Programs in Nevada and Colorado when combined with an approved opacity meter. The MD-250-M is a compact dynamometer with industry proven design features including 10.7-inch rollers, heavy duty spherical pillow-block ball bearings, welded structural steel frame, 7.5 hp calibration motor, and an industry standard air-cooled, Eddy Current Power Absorption Unit (PAU) for road-load simulation. The MD-250-M is available in both right and left hand configurations to accommodate different facility designs.
