  • Primary Injection Test Systems

    Primary current injection testing is utilised in high current/high voltage scenarios found at large electrical installations such as substations. A large current (between 100A and 20,000A depending on system specifications and test requirements) is injected directly on the primary side of the electrical system such as a circuit breaker. The objective of the test is to identify how the system operates under various levels of current load.

  • Transformer Resistance Testing

    By measuring a transformer''s winding resistance from one HV transformer bushing to another, transformer resistance testing can reveal a great deal of information about the transformer. In addition to the obvious faulted transformer winding (i.e., an open winding or shorted turn), subtler problems can be detected. The DC current, in addition to flowing through the winding, also flows through the off-load ratio adjusting switch (DETC), the on-load ratio adjusting switch (on load tap changer or OLTC), as well as numerous welded and mechanical connections. Hence, the integrity of all these components can be verified with the use of transformer resistance test instruments. Applying DC test current through OLTC switches under transition (tap changes) validates proper make-before-break operation. From experience, it is known that the on load time changer has the greatest risk of misoperation as it operates within a transformer.

    The Oil Tan Delta (OTD) is a laboratory instrument, which measures the Tan Delta, Resistivity and Relative Permittivity of insulating liquids. These tests give a wider picture of the overall quality of the insulating oil, and will indicate if there is any contamination. Megger has developed features of the OTD to ensure that productivity levels within laboratories are maximised. The microprocessor controlled inductive heater means that there is uniformity of temperature throughout the cell, in compliance with IEC 60247, and for cooling a fan effectively speeds up the cell cooling time. The instrument has a temperature measuring range of 10 to 110 C, with an accuracy of 1 C. It can be set to preheat before testing takes place. The automated oil drain facility negates the need to move the oil vessel. User safety is paramount and with this in mind, Megger have designed independent and dual redundant high voltage cut-off circuitry. If for any reason the user needs to abort the test, this can be done so by pressing any key, immediately terminating the test and removing the high voltage. The design of the cell components maximise oil fill rate but minimise turbulence in oil flow and eliminate trapping of air. With only 32 cell components, it is easy to assemble and disassemble.
