Sonar
Piezo elements are used in military and commercial sonar systems for position finding activities. Location of surface and subsurface vessels, depth measurement, surveying, fish location, and communication are several of the more common sonar applications. Piezoelectric ceramic materials have high bandwidth and can quickly respond by applying high force at low power levels. These materials are generally unaffected by environmental factors such as humidity and temperature. CTS materials can be formed to customer specifications and are available in a wide range of geometries with dimensions up to 150 mm or thicknesses less than 100 microns. Our materials sustain high levels of drive voltage and provide excellent coupling factors in sonar applications.

Sonar Transponder Module for Gavia AUV
THE SONAR TRANSPONDER MODULE (STM), is a module for receiving and retransmitting sonar signals which allows for a standard Gavia vehicle to be configured as a Sonar Training Target (STT) for ASW training purposes. ISTI’s adaptive target recognition, detection and classification system for sonar imagery can learn in-situ from expert operators’ feedback in order to yield better accuracy and flexibility in making decisions in new environmental and operating conditions. The developed system is based on the intuitive concept of image retrieval, where images submitted to the system are matched to learned images via a similarity measure. An information-based selective sampling measure chooses the new patterns to be used in the in-situ learning.

The Model SSC/924 Stroke-to-Video Scan Converter converts stroke video from XYZ vector to a standard video format. Stroke video is generated by a variety of random deflection devices, including certain radar and sonar devices, spectrum analyzers, and Heads Up Display (HUD) generators. High Definition, Standard Definition, and VESA video output standards are provided.
