Motorized Polarization Controller. In addition to its basic function of adjusting polarization states in multi channels, it also provides convenient ‘save and recall’ functions. As a Scanning PC, it provides very powerful ‘auto scan’ modes with variable scanning speeds. Polarization states can be manipulated by either manual adjustment or remote control (GPIB, RS-232) using two quarter-wave plates in each channel of the PC1600. Additionally, the auto scan mode of FIBERPRO’s Motorized Polarization Controller has been upgraded in LPC, and it shows another auto scan mode of four quarter-waveplates with higher polarization extinction ratio when connecting two channels at a high speed. PC1600 is an essential tool to complete fiber-optic, multi-channel measurement systems such as WDM/DWDM as well as R&D (i.e. PMD experiments), and manufacturing.

Sensor for Filament Inspection

EVT presents the EyeFI - the sensor for the inspection of filaments. The sensor contains two cameras with an Aptina sensor and S-Mount lenses. The cameras are perpendicular to each other. It is therefore possible to inspect two sides of the filament, which means that the EyeFI can detect if the filament is out-of-roundness. Additionally the errors and defects can be detected. For example the occurring flaws are point-shaped or partly flaked, or point-shaped and transverse, or also looking like a longitudial rib, or only spots in different shapes. The defects can be detected with the EyeFI sensor. The EyeFI contains board cameras with sensors from Aptina, the IoCap and an evaluation processor. The housing is about 14x10x4 cm in size. The IoCap is the image-capture-IO-board, which is designed and developped by EVT.

1. Erbium-doped Fiber Amplifier, due to the multiple cascades and the accumulation of noise caused by spontaneous emission, will reduce the system CNR greatly and thus it will limit the transmission capacity and distance of the system. Raman Fiber Amplifier (RFA) is a newly designed fiber amplifier based on Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS) effect. It is considered as the core technology of new generation DWDM fiber over-long communication. Compared with Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier, Raman amplifier has the advantage of low Noise Figure (NF), wider gain bandwidth, flexible gain spectral region and stable temperature. It is the only device that can operate in 1300~1600 nm.
