Sri Comm has been very active in this core component, installing over 40 telephone exchanges throughout the country since 1975. Various types of exchanges including electromechanical, ESK and stored programme or computerized exchanges have been installed over the years. In total some 400,000 subscribers have benefited from these projects. More recently, systems incorporating technologies involving DDN, AN and FMK systems have also been implemented.

Back Plane Tester
This machine is used to test back planes used in telecommunications central stations. An operator loads a completed point to point wired back plane onto a retractable shelf on the front of the tester. Table continues and the disk falls through a hole into the bin. The shelf is pushed back into the machine where it is held in place by pneumatic operated clamps. Then a series of pneumatic cylinders sequentially insert a test card into each location in the back plane. A remote instrument performs a complete point to point continuity, short and hi pot test on all connections in the back plane.

Launch Fiber Box
OTDR measuring devices are used in various ways in fibre optic technology. They enable extensive characterisation of existing fibre optic cabling networks. The use of launch and receive fibres is advantageous when it comes to ensuring precise results evaluations. With bidirectional backscatter measurements with launch and receive fibres, the attenuation values of the first and last plug-in connection can be determined precisely by averaging and device dead zones can be avoided. Measuring device manufacturers recommend different lengths of launch and receives fibres to avoid “phantom reflections”. These launch and receive fibres are also subject to measuring equipment monitoring and should regularly undergo revision in accordance with the OTDR measuring devices. A good measurement result depends on the state and quality of the measuring equipment used. To accommodate developments in radio equipment technology and to align with the requirements of the New Legislative Framework (NLF), the EU R&TTE Directive has been re-written. As of 2016, the European Commission replaced the R&TTE Directive with the Radio Equipment Directive (RED), which establishes safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements for equipment using the radio spectrum. Following June 13, 2017, after a one year transition, the RED 2014/35/EU replaced the R&TTE Directive.
