Image intensifier tubes (IITs) are vacuum tubes that amplify a low light-level image to observable levels. Image intensifier tubes are the most important modules of night vision devices that play crucial role in defense/security/industrial applications.Technology of manufacturing of image intensifier tubes is very difficult and performance parameters of modern IITs varies even within the same technological process. Next, test report offered by manufacturers cannot be fully trusted because there are some differences in test methods used by different manufactures. Further on, there are literature sources presenting conflicting claims of different manufacturers. It is quite common to find on the world market two night vision devices (or two image intensifier tubes) of the same data sheet parameters but of totally different image quality. Inverse situation is possible, too. Due to reasons mentioned above testing image intensifier tubes is of critical importance for both their manufacturers, manufacturers of night vision devices (NVDs) and final users of NVDs.

ADLINK PCI-9114 series are 32-CH, 16-bit, high resolution multi-function DAQ Cards. The PCI-9114 device features flexible configurations on analog input. The devices are divided into 2 kinds: normal gain version and high gain version. Both versions provide 4 programmable input ranges for bipolar and unipolar inputs. The A/D on the PCI-9114DG device features a sampling rate of 100 kS/s with resolution at 16 bits, while PCI-9114A-DG/HG device features a sampling rate of up to 250kS/s with resolution at 16 bits. The device supports automatic analog input scanning, and offers a differential mode for 8-CH analog inputs and maximum noise elimination, as well as single-ended modes for 16- CH analog inputs. The PI-41000-4G is a CompactPCI® bus based instrument card that allows the user to capture up to 32-bits of digital data into an on-board memory at clock rates up to 120 MHz. The inputs are software configurable to provide one 32-bit wide channel, one 16-bit wide channel with double depth or two 16-bit channels. When configured with a single 16-bit input, the card will capture at up to 120 MHz. When configured with two 16-bit inputs or as a single 32-bit input, the card will capture at up to 80 MHz. Each digital data channel requires three timing signals, frame, line and pixel to accommodate the data capture. When operating in a two channel mode, clocks from channel A can be used to provide timing to channel B. For wider words or multiple channels, more boards can be used in parallel.
