Rapid Prototyping
-
Prototyping is a crucial step in the larger product design and development process. Prototypes allow organizations to stress-test their ideas, evaluate form factor and appearance, assess feasibility and production requirements, and ultimately produce a solid proof of concept. But prototyping can be a surprisingly challenging undertaking: it requires sourcing different materials and parts, possibly incorporating mechanical engineering alongside industrial design, and combining skillsets to produce a single, tangible prototype.

HEVC Analyzer for Rapid Prototyping
HARP
-
HARP is an open source toolkit for rapid prototyping of new HEVC / H.265 video codec extensions. Our motivation for creating HARP lies in the simple idea that a well-chosen development environment allows to focus time and resources more on the design stage of new HEVC extensions and less on subsequent implementation and debugging tasks.

Prototyping
-
Is an early sample, model, or release of a product built to test a concept or process or to act as a thing to be replicated or learned from.[1] It is a term used in a variety of contexts, including semantics, design, electronics, and software programming. A prototype is generally used to evaluate a new design to enhance precision by system analysts and users.

Flying Probe Tester
Condor MTS 505
-
Primarily the Flying Probe Tester was developed to enable In-Circuit testing (ICT) of prototype PCBs. For testing a new design an existing fixture has to be changed or a new fixture has to be procured. The fixtureless design of the MTS 505 Condor is one of its most attractive properties, where the unnecessary and costly time delays incurred for fixture build or changes can be avoided. It is the ideal platform for testing prototypes.

Custom Test Connectors and Sockets
-
Custom test sockets are traditionally expensive to build and maintain. To reduce these costs, consider: Using rapid prototyping techniques to build a housing. Using replaceable Z-Axis Connectors. Depending on board layouts and compressed height, these sockets or test fixtures can achieve high numbers of mate/de-mate cycles and operate at GHz frequencies.

GHz Elastomer Sockets
-
Ironwood’s GHz BGA & QFN/MLF sockets are ideal for prototyping and testing almost any BGA or QFN device application. These ZIF sockets provide excellent signal integrity yet remain cost effective. Innovative elastomer interconnect technology that delivers low signal loss up to >40GHz and supports BGA or QFN/MLF pitches down to 0.3mm was utilized in these sockets. GHz BGA sockets are mechanically mounted over a target system’s BGA lands using mounting and alignment holes at proper locations (page 2 of the individual socket drawing shows recommended PCB layout information). These low-profile sockets are only 2.5 mm per side larger than actual IC packages (industry’s smallest footprint). They support IC devices with body sizes ranging from 55mm down to 1mm. Larger body sizes may require a backing plate. If the backside of the target PCB contains capacitors and resistors, a custom insulation plate with cavities cut for those components can be designed. This insulation plate sandwiches between the backing plate and target PCB.

PLD Systems
Pulsed Laser Deposition
-
Is a versatile thin film deposition technique. A pulsed laser (~20 ns pulse width) rapidly evaporates a target material forming a thin film that retains target composition. This unique ability of stoichiometeric transfer of target composition into the film was realized first by the research team led by Dr. Venkatesan at Bell Communications Research, NJ, USA, nearly 30 years ago while depositing high temperature superconducting (YBa2Cu3O7) thin films. Since then, PLD has become the preferred deposition technique where ever thin films of complex material compositions are considered. Another unique feature of PLD is its ability for rapid prototyping of materials. The energy source (pulsed laser) being outside the deposition chamber, facilitates a large dynamic range of operating pressures (10-10 Torr to 500 Torr) during material synthesis. By controlling the deposition pressure and substrate temperature and using relatively small target sizes, a variety of atomically controlled nano-structures and interfaces can be prepared with unique functionalities.

mmWave Transceiver System
Waveform Transceivers
The mmWave Transceiver System is a modular hardware solution for prototyping real-time communications systems for mmWave frequencies. With 2 GHz of bandwidth, the system can be used to evaluate the ultrawide bandwidth signals being proposed for next-generation wireless communications standards in real time. You can analyze these ultrawide bandwidth signals in real time using a multi-FPGA architecture for computationally intensive digital signal processing. With this processing capability, you can build a real-time two-way communications link with up to 2 GHz of bandwidth.
