Sound Level Meters
A sound level meter is a measuring instrument used to assess noise or sound levels by measuring sound pressure. Often referred to as a sound pressure level (SPL) meter, decibel (dB) meter, noise meter or noise dosimeter, asound level meter uses a microphone to capture sound. The sound is then evaluated within the sound level meter and acoustic measurement values are shown on the display of the sound level meter. The most common unit of acoustic measurement for sound is the decibel (dB); however, some sound level meter devices also determine the equivalent continuous sound level (Leq) and other acoustic parameters. With a portable sound level meter, industrial hygiene and workplace safety professionals can measure sound levels in multiple locations to ensure environmental conditions fall within recommended exposure limits (RELs). Some sound level meter devices can be permanently installed for continuous monitoring of sound levels at a work or job site. Humidity Indicators
A humidity detector, also referred to as a humidity meter or humidity gauge, is a device with a humidity sensor that measures the relative humidity in the air. PCE Instruments offers a number of humidity detector products including handheld humidity detector, data recording or data logging humidity detector, and combination or multifunction humidity detector devices that also measure parameters such as room or ambient temperature and atmospheric or barometric pressure. A humidity detector can measure relative humidity (RH) as a percentage (%) from 0 to 100 % RH, depending on the humidity measurement range of the specific model.Humidity is a key factor in everything from library and museum archival to agriculture, construction, manufacturing, transportation, warehousing, and heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR). Radiation Detectors
A radiation detector is a device for measuring nuclear, electromagnetic or light radiation. A nuclear radiation detector identifies nuclear radiation by measuring the emission of ionizing radiation of alpha particles, beta particles and gamma rays. Also referred to as a geiger counter, a nuclear radiation detector consists of two main elements: the processing electronics and the geiger tube. The geiger tube is filled with low-pressure inert gas like helium, argon or neon. If radioactive radiation occurs, the inert gas is ionized. An anode within the geiger tube registers the quantity of ionized particles numerically correlating with the strength of the radioactive radiation. The radioactivity measurement is then displayed on the LCD screen of the geiger counter or nuclear radiation detector.
