  • Wireless Sensor Nodes

    ams AG

Wireless technologies from ams are notable for their extreme high performance, low power consumption and small board footprint.

  • LiDAR

    ams AG

LIDAR is a remote sensing technology that measures distance by illuminating a target with a laser and analyzing the reflected light.

  • Color Sensor

    ams AG

The color sensor product family includes both RGB (Red, Green, Blue) and high-accuracy XYZ light sensors for precise color measurement, determination, and discrimination. XYZ sensors are capable of providing xy chromaticity co-ordinates in accordance with the CIE 1931 color map. The ams color sensors include filters to block unwanted IR light in the visible spectral range, enabling highly accurate color measurement. Their high sensitivity coupled with their wide dynamic range make them well suited to continuous color temperature measurement of ambient light in display management systems, and automatic-white-balance assistance in camera applications. Some products have additional IR channels to assist with IR light source identification.

  • Ambient Light Sensors & Proximity Detection

    ams AG

ams supplies a family of products which combine an Ambient Light Sensor (ALS) and proximity detection in a single device. The ALS provides measurements of ambient light intensity which match the human eye’s response to light under a variety of lighting conditions, and through a variety of attenuation materials. The proximity detection feature allows a large dynamic range of operation for use over short distances and behind dark glass. These devices are intended for use in mobile phones, and over longer distances for presence detection in computer displays and monitors.

  • Ambient Light Sensors

    ams AG

The Ambient Light Sensor (ALS) products from ams provide measurements of ambient light intensity which match the human eye’s response to light under a variety of lighting conditions. Each device has a specific operating range of performance, from very low light up to bright sunlight. High sensitivity coupled with wide dynamic range make these ALS products ideal for operation behind dark inked glass. They enable consumer electronics device manufacturers to implement display dimming and brightness control functions, helping to reduce power consumption and extend battery run-time.

  • Flash Vs. Scan

    ams AG

A LiDAR system can observe the complete field of view (FOV) at once, called Flash systems. Flash typically works well for short to mid-range (0-100m), and by capturing the complete scene at once also objects with high relative speeds can be detected properly. Another implementation is to focus on a subset of the FOV, consequentially look at the next subsets, until the complete FOV is covered, called Scanning. Scanning can focus the light on the subset instead of the full FOV, and therefore can do object detection at a longer range compared to Flash.

  • LIDAR & Direct Time of Flight

    ams AG

LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is a sensor technology for remote object detection and ranging, using a light source and receiver. Emitted light pulses hit objects, reflect, and return to the LiDAR sensor system where the receiver detects the returning light pulse.

  • VCSEL Light Source

    ams AG

ams supplies LiDAR systems with specific light sources, called VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser). These VCSELs offer specific advantages over other types of light sources as for instance Edge Emitter Lasers:

  • Light Sensors

    ams AG

ams provides the industry’s broadest portfolio of high-performance and high-sensitivity digital discrete and integrated module optical sensors.

  • Angle Position On-Axis

    ams AG

The magnetic rotary position sensor product family detects the absolute angular orientation of an on-axis two-pole magnet rotating over the center of the IC. The absolute angular position can be provided in various formats, including PWM, ABI and UVW, or directly read through the host interface. According to the application’s requirements, resolutions from 8-bit up to 14-bit are available. This technology can be employed in high-accuracy angle position detection, high-speed rotation systems and brushless DC motor control. Any rotary magnetic position sensor can replace either absolute or incremental optical sensors, other magnetic and inductive technologies, potentiometers or magnetic switches.

  • Vital Sign Sensing

    ams AG

The biometric sensors product family features first-of-its-kind integrated optical sensor modules which include algorithms for heart-rate measurement, photoplethysmography (PPG) and electrocardiography (ECG). The modules are ideal for a wide range of end products including wearable devices, medical monitors, industrial equipment and mobile devices. Biometric sensors from ams are able to achieve the highest accuracy ratings in the industry because of a combination of a low-noise analog and optical front-end and custom ams software and algorithms. Drawing on expertise in optical sensing in mobile devices, ams provides OEMs with electrical, mechanical and optical design guidelines to enable designers to quickly realize a successful

  • Inductive Motor Control

    ams AG

The inductive motor control position sensor family detects the electrical position within one pole-pair of a rotating shaft and can be used for the motor commutation of a brush-less DC (BLDC) motor. Based on the inductive sensor technology, this family measures the coupling between an excitation coil (TX) and two receiver coils (RX) via a rotating target. The coils are executed as printed circuit coils and the rotating target is a simple punched metal part. With the correct layout of the coils and the target, both synchronized to the number of pole-pair count of the motor, the IC output is proportional to the electrical angular position within one pole-pair segment with increased resolution and high performance of only 0.3° electrical INL!

  • Position Sensors
