  • Polaris Vega®

    Northern Digital Inc.

The Polaris Vega® optical measurement solution has three models of optical trackers that can be integrated into the workflow of OEM surgical navigation systems: the Polaris Vega XT, Polaris Vega VT, and Polaris Vega ST. All three Polaris Vega models share a common optical measurement technology platform, using near-infrared (IR) light to track the real-time positions of OEM surgical instruments via attached navigation markers. Tracking occurs wirelessly over a large measurement volume.

  • Polaris Tools And Accessories

    Northern Digital Inc.

The Polaris® optical measurement solution is designed with accuracy, reliability, and versatility in mind. Versatility is delivered in part by NDI software packages and developer tools that are available to enhance OEM application development and system customization. The Polaris solution consists of an optical tracker and navigation markers, the latter of which must be attached to a rigid body; i.e. a tool that is rigid in form to prevent unwanted marker movement. The Polaris solution requires three or more markers to be attached to the rigid body tool, the geometry (configuration) of which is unique to each tool.

  • Polaris Vicra®

    Northern Digital Inc.

The Polaris Vicra® shares the same trusted measurement performance as all Polaris optical trackers, but in a smaller form factor. Its compact size can allow medical device OEMs to integrate the Polaris Vicra into surgical workflows that require smaller instruments and where equipment or operative space is limited.

  • 3D Guidance®

    Northern Digital Inc.

The 3D Guidance® electromagnetic tracking solution delivers exceptional performance and value for OEM image-guided interventional and therapy systems and medical trainers that require real-time navigation tracking capabilities. The 3D Guidance solution tracks 6DOF sensors that can be embedded into OEM instruments such as ultrasound probes, rigid and flexible scopes, and laparoscopic tools. Continuous in-vivo tracking is maintained through difficult anatomy, even when sensors are out of sight. Low latency and fast update rates ensure the most subtle tool movements are instantly tracked and visualized within the OEM host interface. The 3D Guidance solution is available in the driveBAY™ and trakSTAR™ configurations, as based on the Electronics Unit. The trakSTAR is a standalone desktop unit that connects to a direct power source. The smaller driveBAY fits inside the drive bay of a computer, OEM imaging cart, or medical trainer/simulator, using the host’s power supply. Both share the same tracking accuracy and reliability. The ready-to-use configuration facilitates cost-effective integration and speeds time to market.

  • EM Tracking Products

    Northern Digital Inc.

The strength of the Aurora and 3D Guidance electromagnetic tracking solutions lies in their similarities and their differences. Both can provide unobstructed in-vivo tracking of OEM medical instruments, share exceptional measurement accuracy and reliability and are engineered and manufactured to deliver unparalleled tracking performance. Between them, there are seven different field generators with unique measurement volumes, and 20 standard sensor offerings (plus custom options). While the Aurora has 6DOF and 5DOF sensors, the 3D Guidance solution specializes in 6DOF tracking. 6DOF sensors are usually re-processable; 5DOF can be disposable. Some of our field generators are portable, while others seamlessly integrate into the medical OEM’s procedural cart or operative table. These differences provide near-countless opportunities to customize and integrate the Aurora and 3D Guidance solutions – all while benefiting from a shared foundation of technical excellence and expert product execution.

  • Aurora®

    Northern Digital Inc.

The Aurora® electromagnetic tracking solution provides unobstructed real-time tracking of micro sensors that can be embedded into rigid and flexible OEM medical instruments such as ultrasound probes, endoscopes, catheters, guidewires – even at the tip of a needle. With the Aurora® electromagnetic tracking solution, no line-of-sight is needed for in-vivo tracking of instruments through twisting anatomical tracts. When integrated as a component into the workflow of OEM image-guided surgery or interventional systems, the Aurora acts as the link between patient image sets and 3D space, enabling the instruments’ positions and orientations to be instantly localized and visualized within the operative field. It does so with the exceptional speed, accuracy, and precision required by today’s most demanding minimally invasive approaches.

  • NDI Navigation Markers – Detect OEM Instruments With Pinpoint Accuracy

    Northern Digital Inc.

Navigation markers are a key component of the Polaris® optical measurement solution. When attached to OEM instruments, navigation markers function as triangulation points for the instrument within the treatment space. This is due to the marker’s unique retro-reflective surface, which allows the Polaris optical tracker to ‘see’ it during tracking. The navigation marker and the Polaris optical tracker work together to localize, detect, and track OEM instruments with pinpoint accuracy.
