AI-1200 - Airspace Monitoring Systems
AGS with Snif technology, and now with a backlit LCD display, the 1200 monitor will accurately measure and display CO levels from 12 ppm to 250 ppm. It also includes alarms like the 1100 with a panel of flashing lights and 92 decibel audio that begins at 30 ppm and grows in intensity to 120 ppm. The Snif technology provides an update every 4 seconds when in alarm to help you find the source, see the trend and otherwise manage the CO event. Like all of our V2 models, it now has a motion switch option built into it. When motion switch management is chosen, the monitor will turn itself on by any movement and if it doesn't sense CO or hasn't moved in 45 minutes, it will shut itself off. The motion switch allows passive screening capability that can dramatically stretch your battery life without risk of forgetting to turn the monitor on or off. Like all of our monitors, there is no routine bump testing or calibration required and the monitor is warranted for five years, even the sensor and its calibration is included in the warranty.

The NITOS prototype wireless sensor mote, is comprised of open-source and configurable modules. NITOS mote features the ATmega32u4 microcontroller running at 8MHz and operating at 3.3V. The aforementioned microcontroller is fully compatible with the Arduino platform that enables ease of software development and provides compatibility with several commercial sensing modules. Moreover, the platform is equipped with an Xbee radio interface that enables communication with the respective gateway. The Xbee module is a tiny device ideal for setting up mesh networks and has a defined rate of 250 kbps. This module uses the IEEE 802.15.4 stack which is the basis for theZigbee protocol. Apart from the Xbee module, NITOS mote can also feature a WiFi wireless interface in order to communicate with WiFi gateways. The developed mote currently features specific sensing modules, an air temperature and humidity sensor, a light intensity sensor and a human presencesensor. Various types of sensing modules and actuators can be further integrated exploiting existing Arduino software that implements several existing communications protocols. The firmware can be easily uploaded through the on-board USB connection. Figure 1 illustrates the developed NITOS mote and the respective gateway node.

Arc-Flash - Selco USA, INC
Arc-Flash Relay is a high-speed, arc-detection device for electrical power-distribution systems. The protection relay has outputs for trip coils in several zones, and has inputs for up to several optical sensors for optimal arc detection. The inputs support both point sensors and fiber-optic line sensors, which cover a larger area.Using optical sensors rather than relying strictly on current measurement allows a much faster detection time than overcurrent relays or a circuit breaker alone can typically provide, as the light from the arc is unique for the fault, whereas current pulses above the nominal level are part of normal operation for many systems. On the occurrence of an arc fault, the protection relay detects the fault and pulses the trip contact in less than one millisecond, which trips the circuit breaker(s) supplying the fault. The total arcing time is effectively reduced to the mechanical opening time of the circuit breaker, typically between 30 and 75 milliseconds. This reduces the energy of the arc fault significantly, increasing worker safety, reducing fault damage, and improving uptime. Switchgear can often be simply cleaned, inspected, and put back in service after an arc fault instead of having to be replaced.

National Technical Systems
NTS is equipped to test optical fiber, cable and active/passive components and systems. At NTS we test against a variety of specifications including Telcordia, Military, TIA/EIA, and ISO. We also perform customized test programs against specifications or test plans developed with or for our customers. Our in-house Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) can also help develop and present customized training programs to address a variety of our customer’s needs. Testing is not our only area of expertise; our Consulting Services are available to assist manufacturers in designing, troubleshooting, and delivering a quality product to market. Our goal is simple: to help our clients make the most efficient use of their products in their systems, network designs and deployments. NTS has invested heavily in optical equipment – our overall chamber capacity is one of the largest in North America. We have recently tripled our switch capacity by adding new high channel count JDS and EXFO switches which allows us to run multiple single mode and multi-mode programs simultaneously. Our lab is outfitted to make spectral measurements using tunable lasers, OSAs, white light sources and monochromator based systems.

Torontech Group
Optical fiber consists of a core and a cladding layer, selected for total internal reflection due to the difference in the refractive index between the two. In practical fibers, the cladding is usually coated with a layer of acrylate polymer or polyimide. This coating protects the fiber from damage but does not contribute to its optical waveguide properties. Individual coated fibers then have a tough resin buffer layer and/or core tube(s) extruded around them to form the cable core. Several layers of protective sheathing, depending on the application, are added to form the cable. Rigid fiber assemblies sometimes put light-absorbing ("dark") glass between the fibers, to prevent light that leaks out of one fiber from entering another. This reduces cross-talk between the fibers, or reduces flare in fiber bundle imaging applications Optical fibers are very strong, but the strength is drastically reduced by unavoidable microscopic surface flaws inherent in the manufacturing process. The initial fiber strength, as well as its change with time, must be considered relative to the stress imposed on the fiber during handling, cabling, and installation for a given set of environmental conditions. There are three basic scenarios that can lead to strength degradation and failure by inducing flaw growth: dynamic fatigue, static fatigues, and zero-stress aging.

EL Imaging Tester - OAI
EL Testing for Si Solar Cells using High Performance CCD. The determination of luminescence (photo emissions) in solar cells is an important characterization tool. Typical solar cells often have defects which limit the efficiency or lifetime of a cell. Many of these defects are visualized with Luminescence Imaging. By using this technique, the manufacturing process can be optimized to produce better cells. Luminescence Imaging takes advantage of the radiative inter-band recombination of excited charge carriers in solar cells. The emitted photons can be captured with a sensitive CCD camera to obtain an image of the distribution of the radiative recombination in the cell. This distribution is determined by the local excitation level, allowing the detection of electrical losses, thus mapping the diffusion length of minority carriers as the emitted light is low intensity and in the near infra-red range, the CCD camera has a high sensitivity wavelength from 900 to 1100 nm with little thermal noise. This CCD camera provides excellent resolution of 1024 x 1024 pixels with a large 1μm pixel size, multi-megahertz readout speed, and robust USB 2.0 connectivity. The EL CCD Camera is the ultimate high-performance CCD camera for electroluminescence and photoluminescence imaging for Photovoltaic (PV) Cells and Modules. This camera combines low noise electronics and optimal sensitivity in NIR.
