Calipers
-
A precision caliper measures linear dimensions, thickness or diameter using parallel jaws or legs. Inside, outside, dial, digital and vernier are the main types of calipers. Outside calipers offer versatility in diameter measurements, such as for pipes, while inside types can gage the distance of various openings. Vernier, dial and digital calipers utilize a calibrated scale with a fixed jaw, in combination with a second jaw and a pointer that slides along the scale. Popular digital models with data output, such as the Mitutoyo 500-506-10, support ease in measurement recording.

Micrometers
-
Our metrology solutions include mechanical and digital micrometers that accurately measure short distances, thicknesses or diameters. A standard instrument features a semicircular frame with an anvil on one end and a barrel with a spindle and turning thimble on the other. When the spindle and anvil make contact with an object, measurements are read from scales and computed, or the total measurement is digitally displayed. An outside micrometer often measures wires and shafts, an inside type measures hole diameters, and a depth meter measures slots. Precision electronic micrometers feature LCD displays and an output port for transmissions. Essential micrometer standards can be used to check micrometers and make gage comparisons.

Dial Indicators
-
Dial indicators are precision instruments used to measure small distances and angles. These micrometer-type instruments indicate readings by a needle moving across the graduations on a dial face. A plunger on the indicator moves in and out from its body and rotates the measuring needle. Digital dial indicators feature digital displays and linear encoders.
