  • Water Quality Test Kits

    General Tools & Instruments

The range of model shapes, sizes and capabilities of water quality test kits reflects the diversity of potential end users, who could just as easily work for a small laboratory as for a giant water treatment plant. The simplest water test kits are pocket-sized and measure only one water-quality parameter, such as pH or conductivity. A step above these water test kits are test kits able to measure multiple parameters, including total dissolved solids and dissolved oxygen. A bit higher up the price-performance curve are industrial-quality handheld water test kits that measure one or multiple parameters, and may even log the readings to enable trend analysis.

  • WiFi Inspection Cameras

    General Tools & Instruments

WiFi Inspection Cameras generates a local WiFi hotspot (without Internet access) through which video clips and still photos of hard-to-reach or hard-to-see areas or equipment captured by the probe camera can be sent to an app-enabled smartphone or tablet for viewing and sharing. Free apps for iOS devices (iPhones or iPads) and Android devices are available from the iTunes App Store and Google Play Store, respectively. The three WiFi cameras differ in probe length, camera lighting and grip style.

  • Wireless Inspection Cameras

    General Tools & Instruments

General offers three wireless inspection cameras whose probes can be disconnected from the grip and monitor. They are the DCS18HPART (with a 6mm/0.23 in. diameter articulating probe), the DCS1800HP (with a 5.5mm/0.22 in. diameter non-articulating probe), and the DCS500 (with a 9mm/0.35 in. diameter probe and a 5 in. diagonal color LCD). Wireless inspection cameras offer operating flexibility because the user can use both hands to manipulate the probe.

  • Moisture Meters

    General Tools & Instruments

Moisture Meters fall into two categories, pin-type and pinless. Pin-type Moisture Meters measure the resistance between test pins inserted into a piece of wood or a building material and use that reading as a proxy for the object''s absolute moisture level. The wetter the material, the less ready it is to be sanded, painted, finished or covered. A best seller is the MMD4E Pin-Type Moisture Meter. Pinless Moisture Meters rely on the ability of moisture to inductively distort an electric field created by turning on the meter. Although Pinless Moisture Meters can only make relative readings, they are nonetheless useful for pinpointing the source of a leak above a ceiling, and for leaving no unsightly pinholes on a finished surface. The MMD7NP is a best selling pinless moisture meter.

  • Anemometers

    General Tools & Instruments

Anemometer-Thermometer with Excel-formatted Data Logging SD Card and "K/J" Port accurately measures and logs speed and temperature of low-speed airflows in ducts, vents and other tight spaces.

  • Articulating Inspection Cameras

    General Tools & Instruments

Articulating Inspection Cameras with probes whose tips can be precisely turned (articulated) by the user up to 150 in two directions. Articulation enables inspection of targets located off-axis (even "behind" the probe) or in a tight space without removing the probe. The Inspection Cameras currently offered include the DCS16HPART, its wireless cousin the DCS18HPART, and the DCS665-ART Articulating Inspection Cameras.

  • Infrared Thermometers

    General Tools & Instruments

Two specifications tell you nearly everything you need to know about any infrared (laser) thermometer: its measurement range and its distance-to-spot (D:S) ratio. The wider the range and the higher the D:S number (a measure of its optical resolution), the better the instrument. Infrared Thermometers (IRTs) with lower numbers are perfectly adequate for simple tasks like spot-checking food temperatures and energy auditing such as the IRT207 Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer. Higher-priced infrared thermometers intended for industrial users may have a SKU that ends in "K" such as the IRT850K Ultra-Wide-Range Infrared Thermometer with K Port and Adjustable Emissivity. The "K" indicates that it can accept inputs from a "K" type thermocouple probe used to measure temperature on-contact.

  • Refrigerant Leak Detectors

    General Tools & Instruments

refrigerant leak detectors use a proprietary semiconductor sensor to detect most commercially available HFC, HFO, HC, HCFC and CFC refrigerants. Our newest model, the RLD440 Refrigerant Leak Detector, goes one step further by complying with all five worldwide refrigerant detection testing standards

  • Psychrometers

    General Tools & Instruments

All psychrometers derive an environment's wet-bulb and dew point temperatures from a precise measurement of relative humidity. The original psychrometer had two thermometers mounted together with a handle attached on a chain. One thermometer was ordinary. The other had a cloth wick over its bulb and was called a wet-bulb. New, digital versionslike General's EP870X family improve on this basic design, offer HVAC technicians a better tool for recharging the refrigerant of a residential or commercial A/C system.

  • Weather Detection Systems

    General Tools & Instruments

General offers weather detection systems that use a base station to display inputs received wirelessly from remote sensors. The RGR150 can track rainfall amounts as well as temperature and/or relative humidity. WS821 & WS831DL Weather Detection Systems are full-featured wireless weather stations that add wind speed readings and track trends in barometric pressure that can serve as the basis of a short-term weather forecast. Barometric pressure is also available from a dedicated wireless station (the DBAR880), and the original weather forecasterthe ABAR300 Analog Barometer.

  • Value Inspection Cameras

    General Tools & Instruments

General's Value Inspection Cameras offer excellent savings on certain Inspection Cameras such as the DCS280 Rugged Video Inspection System & the KT280 Professional Inspection Kit. Take a look & see if one will meet your needs.

  • Harness Testers/Thickness Gauge

    General Tools & Instruments

Our Hardness Testers/Thickness Gauges includes premium models such as the EMHT40, UTEMHT20 and UTEGEMTT2. These testers are precision instruments designed to measure the thickness or hardness of most metals. Two cost effective units - FHT801 and FHT803 are tailored to agricultural applications such as checking the ripeness of fruits and vegetables in fields/warehouses.

  • Stud Sensors

    General Tools & Instruments

Stud Sensors such as the MSV100 and MSV350D comprise a category of their own. Each uses electromagnetic induction to sense the presence of (and thereby locate) a stud, pipe, batten, current-carrying wire or other metallic object behind a wall or above a ceiling. The two instruments differ in their choice of the display technology (LED or LCD) used to pinpoint position.

  • Pipe & Duct Inspection Cameras

    General Tools & Instruments

Pipe & Duct Inspection Camera are video inspection cameras with a probe long enough (roughly 70 ft.) to locate and identify an obstruction in a water or sewer line or HVAC duct by taking close-up video clips and photos of it. The P16PIP probe (also available separately) that comes with the DPS16 Pipe & Duct Inspection Camera has better camera lighting and optics and slightly better resistance to water than the P610-20PR probe that attaches to a recording or non-recording wet/dry inspection camera console.
