Transmission line probes are a special type of passive probe designed for use at very high frequencies. They replace the high impedance probe cable found in a traditional passive probe with a precision transmission line, with a characteristic impedance that matches the oscilloscope input (50 Ohm). This greatly reduces the input capacitance to a fraction of a picofarad, minimizing the loading of high frequency signals. A matching network at the tip increases the DC input resistance. While they have lower DC input resistance than a traditional passive probe (usually 500 Ohm) to 1kOhm), the input impedance of these probes remains nearly constant over their entire frequency range. A traditional /10 passive probe will have a 10 MOhm) input impedance at DC, however this impedance drops rapidly with frequency, passing below the input impedance of a transmission line probe at less than 100 MHz.

The SGT-200 can measure the resistance of the grounding cables, clamps and ferrules. The measured resistance values can be compared against the calculated values (using the ASTM 2249-03 standard) and a Pass/Fail result can be printed along with the measured resistance values. Since the SGT-200 uses a DC current, there is no need to uncoil the cable under test. It can be conveniently tested in its coiled state in a much smaller testing enviornment.

Model LCA-9PC comes with DB9 male and female connectors, which require soldering to user-furnished mating female or male wire connectors. On- board jumper selections include sensitivities from 0.5 mV/V to 10 mV/V, bandwidths from 100 Hz to 30 kHz, and amplified outputs of 0 to ±5V, 0 to ±10V, 0-16 mA, 0-20 mA or 4-20 mA. Zero and span adjustments are via precision 25-turn low-tempco metal film otentiometers.The units can be operated next to the sensor with 4-wire hookup or at distances up to 1 km (3300 feet) with 6-wire hookup.
