The EM-2107A is a standard test fixture for evaluation of the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of planar material. The fixture is an enlarged section of coaxial transmission line and complies fully with the requirements of ASTM test method D4935-1. The measured data relates to the shielding effectiveness due to a plane wave (far field EM wave) from which near field values for magnetic and electric fields may be inferred. The EM-2107A is provided with a reference standard test specimen, a dynamic range specimen. Dynamic range of greater than 80dB is achievable, although the cables and other test system components usually establishes the limiting factors.

Four port devices can be realized by joining two 3 port devices via the appropriate ports. As system performance requirements become more demanding, new design approaches must be adopted. These include Faraday rotation devices and phase shift circulators. The bandwidth and isolation limitations of 3 port devices are overcome through a distributed architecture that enables more ferrite material to be incorporated into the transmission path, thereby achieving an increase in the biasing magnetic field. Phase shift circulators can be designed to handle higher RF power than 3-port devices.

The SX1 set consists of 3 passive near field probes for making measurements in the development phase of E-field and magnetic field with a high clock frequency in the range from 1 GHz to 10 GHz. The probe heads of the set SX allow for measurements close to electronic assemblies, e.g. on single IC pins, conducting paths, components and their connectors, to localize interference sources. Field orientation and field distribution on an electronic assembly can be detected through trained use of the near field probe. The near field probes are small and handy. The Varcorder measures and records Amps and Power Factor. A voltage constant is then applied in software to calculate VARs. The Varcorder uses the same current sensor technology as the original Ampstik. This patented amp sensor does not use magnetic materials and has no moving parts. The opening of the sensor is electronically closed, and external currents are electronically rejected. The accuracy, external current reject, and range of currents measured by the patented amp sensor substantially exceed the performance of the best clamp-on sensors. The true power factor is calculated by measuring the electric field in comparison with the current reported from the amp sensor. The key feature of the unit is the ability to leave it deployed on the line to record readings every 15 minutes for 90+ days. It easily attaches to the line with a standard shotgun style hotstick. Once on the line, it immediately begins to collect and record the current and power factor on the line.
