The Model 4013 extensometer meets the requirements of ASTM D5656 for measuring the strain properties of an adhesive in shear. It uses different contact point spacing compared to the extensometer shown in D5656. This makes it much easier to mount and eliminates the slippage problems associated with the design shown in the ASTM standard. The Model 4013 is available with all of Epsilon’s temperature configurations. It has a 3.0 mm (0.12 inches) full scale measuring range. The conical point contacts included with the extensometer are made from tungsten carbide.The Model 4013 extensometers are strain gaged devices, making them compatible with any electronics designed for strain gaged transducers. Most often they are connected to a test machine controller. The signal conditioning electronics for the extensometer is typically included with the test machine controller or may often be added. In this case the extensometer is shipped with the proper connector and wiring to plug directly into the electronics. For systems lacking the required electronics, Epsilon can provide a variety of solutions, allowing the extensometer output to be connected to data acquisition boards, chart recorders or other equipment.

For indirect tensile testing, such as for resilient modulus, these extensometers measure the lateral deformation of specimens. They are self-supporting on the sample and clip on in seconds. The traditional way this deformation has been measured was prone to errors caused by slight rocking of the sample as it is loaded. The self-supporting design of the Model 3911 eliminates this problem. This unit will handle the dynamic pulse requirements of resilient modulus testing.The speed of mounting makes test set-up much faster than with the older method. The pivot mounting used ensures that the specimen contact pads meet the often uneven asphalt surface as well as possible. The MINI-MAX, Ultrasonic Bolt Tension Monitor, defines the state of the art in the measurement of the actual elongation produced by tightening a threaded fastener. The MINI-MAX can measure the elongation very accurately in fasteners of virtually any material from 1/2 inch to 4 feet in length. The measurement is achieved by determining the change in the transit time, of an ultrasonic shock wave along the length of the fastener as the fastener is tightened by any method. The on-board microcomputer automatically interprets this time measurement to display the time(nanoseconds), elongation, load, stress, or %strain from stretching a fastener. Through the use of high speed digital signal processing and automated diagnostics, the MINI-MAX minimizes the requirement for extensive operator training. With built in data recordation and reporting through an RS232 interface, the MNI-MAX offers an easy to use and reliable solution to the most difficult bolting problem.

The WR2, Flexural Natural Frequency, and Torsional Stiffness values as stated in the Dynamic Characteristics box below, are approximate and the tabulated data pertains to the torque pickup only, and does not include the effects of couplings or other rotating masses that would be part of a dynamic system.
