McGan Technology

With years of experience, McGan Technology came into being in 2003 when there were an estimated 2,500,000 surgeries involving electrosurgical instruments and in a number of operations patients suffered electrosurgical burns to non-targetted areas. The McGan team recognized the need to assist Central Sterile and OR Directors to reduce, and hopefully eliminate these incidents. A recent study indicated a 57% rate of failure in an evaluated group of reusable ESI’s. Another study showed a 3% failure rate in prepackaged disposable units. Insulation failure was most common in the distal third of the instruments compared to the middle or proximal third. One in five reusable laparoscopic instruments had an insulation failure. Recommendation XV of AORN‘s 2010 Perioperative Standards and Recommended Practices page 453 states: “Surgical instruments should be inspected for cleanliness and proper working order after decontamination.” (PNDS: I70) “Inspecting instruments for sterilization before the assembly of trays provides an opportunity to identify those instruments that require additional cleaning or repair before use.” Recommendation XVI.f. states: “Instruments in disrepair should be tagged or labeled and removed from service until repaired.”

  • Wireless Temperature And Humidity Data Logger

    ThermaSense - McGan Technology

ThermaSense is a Wireless temperature and humidity sensor with external humidity and RTD based temperature sensors, the device provides a fast response time for both parameters, Functions include starting, stopping and downloading from the device wirelessly. Data can be provided in real time back to a central PC, or the device may be downloaded at periodic intervals. The digital display provides the current reading for both the humidity and temperature levels with a quick view of minimum, maximum and average statistics of the logged data. An audible buzzer and LED alarm indicator alarms when either parameter is above or below the threshold set. Email and text alarms can also be configured and sent from within the software.

  • 8K Electrosurgical Insulation Defect Detector

    MMPD - McGan Technology

McGan Technology’s MMPD-8K electrosurgical insulation defect detector is a battery operated unit that tests the integrity, such as pinholes, cracks or defects, of the insulation of electrosurgical instrument in order to prevent inadvertent tissue burns which may occur during electrosurgical instrument procedures. The integrity of the insulation of electrosurgical instruments can occur over time, through normal surgical use, through the accidental contact with a sharp instrument or the rubbing of the insulation to the point of abrading it. The insulation failure provides an alternate pathway for the current to leave the instrument’s electrode usually beyond the sight of the surgeon which will result in the unintended tissue burn. Using an electrosurgical test equipment maintenance program can greatly reduce the number of these inadvertent burns during electrosurgical procedures.

  • Electrosurgical Insulation Defect Detector

    MM513 - McGan Technology

McGan Technology’s MM513 electrosurgical insulation defect detector is a compact, hand held, battery operated unit that tests the integrity, such as pinholes, cracks or defects, of the insulation of electrosurgical instrument in order to prevent inadvertent tissue burns which may occur during electrosurgical instrument procedures. The integrity of the insulation of electrosurgical instruments can occur over time, through normal surgical use, through the accidental contact with a sharp instrument or the rubbing of the insulation to the point of abrading it. • Wire Test Unit

    McGan Technology

The Wire Testing Unit (WTU) is used in conjunction with the MMPD-8K kit or the MM5KV Kit purchased with the optional HV Red Wire and is used to easily test the continuity of electrosurgical cables used to connect the electrosurgical generator either to the active handpiece (e.g. laparoscopic instruments or forceps) or to the return electrode which completes the circuit between the generator and the patient. If the conductor is broken without damage to the cable’s jacket it can remain unseen and could be put into use for the electrosurgical operation causing the system to not properly function. By using the WTU you can test to ensure that the cables have continuity prior to actual usage in the operating room. This does not preclude the other tests that should be performed on these cables such as visually examining the cable for jacket damage including cracks, pinholes and abrasions and manually flexing the cable.
