Significant time and resources used to be required to test and optimize a printer's performance. Measuring performance required a test engineer to set up and run print jobs from various applications, take time measurements with a stop watch and log test results into a database. This process was vulnerable to human error. In addition, test pages and methodology were not standardized, creating difficulties in comparing results.
